Nissan presented a variety of show cars at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show (held from October 23rd to November 4th), including the "LEAF," an electric vehicle (EV) slated for global launch and volume production in late 2010, and the "Land Glider," an EV concept car. Nissan’s ultimate goal in the environmental field is zero emissions. Nissan exhibits focused on concept cars and on the development of related technologies and battery-charging infrastructure in an effort to communicate the company's commitment to consumers. Nissan Develops EPORO Robot Car Designed to Travel in Groups

Nissan exhibited the EPORO Robot Car, which has been designed to travel in groups,mimicking the behavioral patterns of a school of fish, at CEATEC JAPAN 2009. The EPORO was developed from the BR23C robot car (shown at CEATEC JAPAN 2008). Focusing on the behavioral pattern of a school of fish which can avoid obstacles while swimming without colliding into each other, Nissan utilized three fish behavior rules-collision avoidance, traveling side-by-side and approaching - as the EPORO’s traveling patterns.

Nissan Releases New Fairlady Z Roadster and 40th Anniversary Model

Nissan released the new Fairlady Z Roadster on October 15. The Fairlady Z Roadster is a two-seater convertible with a fully automatic power operated soft top. It features a dynamic design with the roof open and the extended roof ends express the beautiful side view. With its shorter wheelbase, reduced weight and advanced VQ37VHR engine, it gives remarkably high levels of acceleration and handling.

Nissan and Sumitomo Corporation start plans for the "4R" business model

Nissan and Sumitomo Corporation announced joint plans to initiate a business venture to "Reuse, Resell, Refabricate and Recycle"lithium-ion batteries previously used in electric cars, giving them a "second-life. By 2020 in Japan, the demand for"second-life" batteries is expected to reach the equivalent of a minimum 50,000 electric-cars per year as demand grows for an increasing range of energy-storage solutions.

Nissan Previews Next Generation Environmental Vehicles

Nissan unveiled all-electric and original hybrid electric prototype vehicles, both powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries. Committed to zero-emission vehicle leadership, Nissan will introduce an all-electric vehicle in the U.S. and Japan in FY2010 and then mass-market vehicles to consumers globally in FY2012. The EV prototype is part of Nissan’s substantial research and development program on zero-emission vehicles. The production vehicle to be introduced in 2010 will have a unique bodystyle that is not based on any existing Nissan model. As well as the all-electric vehicle, Nissan will introduce an original HEV in Japan and the U.S. in FY2010, which carries the first rear-wheel drive hybrid powertrain. The HEV prototype is equipped with a rear-wheel drive hybrid system which is under development to improve environmental performance while also pursuing Nissan's objectives of "fulfilling driving pleasure."

Nissan Establishes Management Institute

Nissan opened "Nissan Learning Center Management Institute" intended to develop future management personnel. This site will be used to implement "Nissan Management Way" and "Global Executive Training", becoming the center for Nissan’s learning corporate culture. In the future, we intend to invite people outside the company and hold programs about leadership, career development and innovation as well as passing on "Nissan DNA" to the next generation.

Oman Becomes Home to World’s Largest Nissan Showroom

In the presence of Nissan President & CEO Carlos Ghosn, and H.H. Asad Bin Tariq Al Said, personal representative of His Majesty the Sultan of Oman, the world’s largest Nissan showroom was officially opened to an audience of nearly one thousand guests. The Muscat premises are home to Nissan's sole distributor in Oman, Suhail Bahwan Automobiles, and extend to 3,367 square meters. The display area can accommodate the full range of Nissan and Infiniti models and their variants, with space for over 25 vehicles.

New 2009 Season Motorsport Programs

Nissan and Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd. (NISMO) announced, on February 27, their global motorsport programme for 2009. In order to offer "Passionate Driving", Nissan continues to participate in the SUPER GT series, GT500 class in 2009, which is the highest level in Japanese domestic motorsports, with the Nissan GT-R. Nissan will also support grassroots activities in select countries outside of Japan to help nurture the motorsports culture. For the team composition for the SUPER GT, this year’s line-up of NISMO, HASEMI MOTORSPORT, TEAM IMPUL and KONDO RACING will deploy one car each for a total of four Nissan GT-Rs that will race in the GT500 class series. Kunihiko Kakimoto remains as general manager in charge of Nissan related teams with the NISMO team managed by Yutaka Suzuki.

Nissan introduced its range of eco-friendly vehicles-the Nissan ECO Series-which qualify for Japan’s new preferential tax scheme for environmentally-friendly vehicles, effective from April 2009. They went on sale from April 23, 2009, nationwide. The Nissan ECO Series offers a diverse choice of 14 models to choose from, including vehicles with improved efficiency such as the Cube, Note, Tiida, Tiida Latio, Wingroad, X-TRAIL and Serena. All 14 Nissan vehicles receive either a 50% or 75% tax break in automobile acquisition and weight taxation.
