Detective Janice Wentworth is convinced that it is because she is a woman that she is getting all the arrest reports to type while others are making the arrests. She is desperate when she is the only one left behind during an armed bank robbery.

In "Doomsday," life at the station house is as chaotic as ever. First, the plumbing breaks?down, causing Detective Fish great distress. Then, Detective Wojehowicz arrests a priest for giving away Bibles without a license. And to cap an already volatile day, a citizen named Weber puts in an appearance to demand that all the city officials and the Governor be arrested. By way of enforcing his request, Weber is wear?ing a belt bristling with dynamite sticks attached to a deton?ator with fingertip control.

A man named Marty, and his friend Driscoll, come to the 12th precinct claiming that one of the detectives extorted fifty dollars from Driscoll outside a bar. Barney is con?cerned about finding the extortionist. Meanwhile, Chano and Harris are out picking up a man who is threatening to jump off the Washington Arch.

You Dirty Rat

In "You Dirty Rat," Fish reports to the narcotics squad that the 12th precinct has taken possession of 20 kilos of marijuana, but there are only 18 kilos when a detective comes by to pick it up. Meanwhile, Barney has called an exterminator to get rid of the rat that bit Wojehowicz.

A Bicentennial celebration creates some unusual events: A hansom cabbie from Washington Square borrows a police?man’s horse when his is stolen and a tourist claims he got a black eye from a fall -? that also destroyed his hotel room. Also, a "lady" has a hard time explaining to Barney how she can sell Bicentennial buttons for 60 dollars.

Fish

Fish has a physical examination and the results lead Barney to put him on restricted duty. Detective Arthur Dietrich is assigned to work with and be trained by him. Because of the restricted schedule, Fish goes home for lunch for the third time in thirty years. Dietrich follows him and meets Bernice and Fish’s single daughter Beverly.

Two off?duty policewomen who want to become detectives cause havoc for Barney and his men by making arrests on a college campus. One of the persons arrested is a suspected drug pusher who Chano has been trailing. Inspector Luger gets involved in the case when the school chancellor and the mayor get upset, charging the police with in?vading the campus.

Barney and his men search for a man with a high?powered rifle who hates cops, while a Mr. Sobel comes in to complain about his wife who took half their savings for a projected space trip to Saturn. Barney tries to keep his detectives cool about the sniper ?? who gets off some shots at Wojo in front of the 12th precinct station house ?? while he has Mr. Hackler, the space trip promoter, picked up as a confidence man.

Fear Of Flying

Barney Miller (Hal Linden) is suffering from a case of heartburn and must listen to the medical advice of Detective Dietrich (Steve Landesburg), who hints that it may be some thing more serious. To make matters worse, a hijacked bus crashes in the 12th Precinct and Barney’s detectives fill up the station house with passengers, the driver, and the suspected hijacker. Even with all these witnesses present and the suspect in custody, Barney is having a difficult time making a case.

Recluse

Graham Roberts was arrested or disturbing the peace after kneeling in the middle of traffic, trying to organize a prayer meeting. He a predicts that the world will end at 5:30 p.m. Jilly Papalardo and Victor Kroitzer arrive at the station to ask their friend, Sgt. Fish, for $100; they want to leave the Children’s Center and New York. They depart when Fish gives them $1 for ice cream and advises them to return to the Center. Meanwhile, the District Attorney orders the arrest of a man who keeps refusing jury duty and is barricaded in his house. Detectives Wojo and Harris return from the assignment with Mr. Unger, a man in his seventies who hasn't been outside of his apartment in 35 years. He has no telephone, radio or television, and grows all his own food. He began coughing and choking as soon as he was taken from the apartment.

A Puerto Rican woman inspector, Detective Baptista (June Gable), arrests Mr. Yusick (Oliver Clark) as a flasher when he stops her to ask change for a quarter. Wojo (Max Gail) is in hot pursuit of a purse-snatcher and shouts too a pedestrian, Mr. Mitchell (Mike Kellin), to stop the thief. When Mitchell refuses, the purse-snatcher escapes and Wojo is frustrated and angry at being unable to enforce the law. He arrests Mr. Mitchell on a charge of "non?involvement."
