People shower milk and other subtances on Lord Mahavir as a part of their worship, in India. Statue of Lord Mahavir at Shravanabelagola, Bahubali (Gomateshwara), in Hassan, Karnataka, world's largest monolithic statue in stone, dating back a thousand years. Every 12 years, hundreds of thousands of devotees gather here to perform the Mahamastakabhisheka, a ceremony where the more-than-thousand-year-old statue is anointed with milk, curd, ghee, rose petals and saffron. The next Mahamastakabhisheka ceremony will be in 2018. The 17.38 meter high monolithic statue of Bhagavan Gomateshwara Bahubali, world's largest, was built by Chamundaraya, a general of king Gangaraya. The base of the statue has inscriptions in Kannada, and dates back to 981 AD. "This clip of professionally-shot broadcast stock footage belongs to the archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., and has been filmed on either Digital Betacam or 1080i HD.
Sema

OK, get ready now because this will be a long description :) But i really think that to be able to see the inner beuty of this ceremony, some key points should be explained. Here is some information that i’ve collected about Sema: Sema means "acceptance by tradition" in Turkish, etymologically the root word comes from Persian. It is part of the inspiration of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi (1207- 1273; a poet, Islamic jurist, theologian, and mystic) as well as of Turkish custom, history, beliefs and culture. Sema is a symbolic ritual through which dervishes (also called semazens) aim to reach the "perfect" (kemal). The aim is to abandon one's nafs, egos or personal desires, by listening to God and the music (hence the term sema), thinking about God. In the symbolism of the Sema ritual, the semazen's camel's hair hat (sikke) represents the tombstone of the ego; his wide, white skirt represents the ego's shroud. By removing his black cloak, he is spiritually reborn to the truth. At the beginning of the Sema, by holding his arms crosswise, the semazen appears to represent the number one, thus testifying to God's unity. While whirling, his arms are open: his right arm is directed to the sky, ready to receive God's beneficence; his left hand, upon which his eyes are fastened, is turned toward the earth. The semazen conveys God's spiritual gift to those who are witnessing the Sema. Revolving from right to left around the heart, the semazen embraces all humanity with love. The human being has been created with love in order to love. From a scientific viewpoint we witness that contemporary science definitely confirms that the fundamental condition of our existence is to revolve. There is no object, no being which does not revolve and the shared similarity among beings is the revolution of the electrons, protons and neutrons in the atoms, which constitute the structure of each of them. As a consequence of this similarity, everything revolves and man carries on his live, his very existence by means of the revolution in the atoms, structural stones of his body, by the revolution of his blood, by his coming from the earth and return to it, by his revolving with earth itself. The ceremony in this video performed by Mustafa Erdogan's Anadolu Ateşi (Fire of Anatolia), as a part of a dance show which has the concept of meeting of the civilizations from east and west in Anatolia, Turkey.

Good Crops Predicated in Cambodia

CHEN: In Cambodia this year's planting season is getting under way. At the country's annual Royal Ploughing Ceremony the royal oxen have predicted a good harvest. STORY: The ceremony is held to officially mark the start of the rice season. The country's royal astrologer presided over the ritual. He announced that the cows had pointed to a good crop and that food would be plentiful. Traditionally, during the ceremony, two sacred oxen are tied to a wooden log as they plough through ceremonial ground. The animals are then offered rice, corn and beans. The astrologers make a prediction on the coming harvest based on what they eat. This year corn is predicted to become the best harvest followed by beans, and rice. The cows turned away others items. [Kang Ken, Chief Astrologer]: "First, we have good rice, second we will get beans and third, we get good corn." Farmers are pleased with the result. [Long Heang, Ceremony Attendee]: "I hope that if the oxen eat corn, we'll get good corn products. We will get good corn and rice this year." But wary of relying purely on clairvoyance, the government has urged farmers to increase their rice harvest. They are looking to add another half a million tones to the six and a half million tones produced last year.
