November 12, 2008. PENGURUS pasukan Liga Super Kedah, Datuk Othman Aziz mengumumkan peletakan jawatannya bagi musim depan walaupun masih mempunyai kontrak sebagai pengurus sehingga tahun 2009. Menurutnya, dia mengambil keputusan tersebut berdasarkan kepada kedudukannya yang tidak memegang sebarang jawatan dalam kerajaan negeri pada masa sekarang. Katanya, kejayaan pasukan Kedah memenangi tiga piala iaitu Liga Super, Piala FA dan Piala Malaysia pada musim 2006/07 adalah saat yang amat membanggakan kerana ketika itu dia baru pertama kali memegang jawatan tersebut. Tambahnya, musim 2007/08 pula lebih menarik apabila skuad Kenari mencipta sejarah double treble buat pertama kali dalam sejarah bola sepak tanah air. "Saya masih mempunyai kontrak sebagai pengurus hingga tahun 2009. Namun mengikut senario dan keadaan semasa serta kedudukan saya kini, saya telah membuat keputusan untuk meletakan jawatan tersebut untuk musim yang akan datang," katanya pada sidang media di Alor Star semalam. Othman berkata, surat peletakan jawatannya itu juga telah dihantar kepada Setiausaha Kehormat KFA dan salinannya kepada presiden dan timbalan presiden semalam. Pada masa yang sama, dia yakin skuad Kedah yang masih dibimbing oleh jurulatih, Mohd. Azraai Khor Abdullah dan pengurusan baru Persatuan Bola Sepak (KFA) mampu mengharungi cabaran musim 2009 dengan lebih cemerlang. Dalam pada itu katanya, dia juga mengucapkan terima kasih kepada skuad Kedah, peminat dan penyokong yang telah memberi galakan dan sokongan kepadanya sepanjang menjadi pengurus pasukan Kedah selama dua musim. "Saya juga ingin merafak sembah menjunjung kasih kepada Sultan Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah di atas limpah perkenan baginda berangkat ke setiap perlawanan penting termasuk berkenan menyampaikan hadiah dalam setiap perlawanan akhir dua musim lalu. "Baginda telah meniup semangat saya untuk berbakti kepada negeri dalam arena bola sepak seterusnya meraih kejayaan cemerlang," ujarnya. Selain itu, dia juga menafikan sekeras-kerasnya dakwaan terdapat beberapa kes penyalahgunaan kuasa dan penyelewengan dana oleh beberapa individu dalam KFA sejak tahun 2003 seperti dalam laporan polis yang dibuat oleh seorang ahli majlis KFA baru-baru ini. Jelasnya, dakwaan tersebut adalah satu fitnah, pembohongan dan berniat jahat untuk menjatuhkan imej, kewibawaan dan mencemarkan nama baiknya serta ingin menafikan segala sumbangan yang telah dihulurkan bagi menjulang nama Kedah dalam sukan bola sepak musim 2006/07 dan 2007/08.
