No matter what type of kite you use for Kite Traction, there are a number of things to remember when selecting the best size to start with. Your choice will depend on the Surface; (Skis on snow or ice, Kite Buggy on soft or hard sand, grass or hard ground), the Wind Speed, Flyer Skill and Experience and Flyer Weight. Whether the flyer is a novice or has a lot of Traction Kiting experience, the best choice is the smallest kite that will produce enough power to move. It is essential not to be overpowered, not just because it's obviously safer, but upwind travel will be easier and less power is easier to manage. A mid-size kite is ideal to get familiar with control on solid ground in a modest steady wind. Once you are confident that you can control the kite, then progress to Skis, SnowBoard, Land Board or KiteBoard.water relaunchable trainer kitepower kitehq kite, trainer kite package, power kite, sensei, http://www.PowerKitesDirect.comhttp://www.HowToKite.comhttp://www.kiteaccident.comhttp://www.classicflyfishing.comhttp://www.kitestunt.comhttp://www.santelmo85.comhttp://www.itc500.comhttp://www.reviewthekite.com

COMPETITION INTENSIFIES AS WORLD TOUR SURFERS TAKE TO THE WATER AT THE O’NEILL COLD WATER CLASSIC CALIFORNIA THE MOST NORTHERN, THE MOST SOUTHERN, THE WILDEST, THE COLDEST & THE MOST CLASSIC SURF CONTEST ON THE PLANET Santa Cruz, California, November 3, 2009 The swell might have dropped slightly, but the competition definitely stepped up on this second day of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic California. With five ASP World Tour surfers in the water today it was always going to be a day of surfing not to be missed. World number three Adriano De Souza came top of his heat – the first in the round of 96 - when the event started in the Californian sunshine. “It’s important for me to compete in the California events because I’m living here,” Adriano said. Talking about his current standing in the world rankings he said: “I didn’t set a goal of being in third or winning a title this year, but I just wanted to do better this year than I did last year. It’s great though.” Timmy Reyes had the heat of the day, finishing with a 9.33 and an 8.50, and making it look both easy and fun at Steamer Lane. “I knew where to sit out here,” said Timmy. “I’ve been back and forth here my entire life. It makes it easy when you come to place that you really like. I feel really good here.” “It’s tricky out there,” he said. “You have kelp and three different waves which you have to know how to surf completely differently. It makes it interesting.” Nathaniel Curran – another World Tour Surfer at this 6 Star Prime ASP WQS event – was enthusiastic to be part of the Cold Water Classic California. “I love coming to this event,” said Nathanial. “I’ve been coming here since I was 10, watching my brothers surf as well as seeing people like Tom Curren.” “I got second here a few years back so I would love to win here this time,” he said. Although part of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series, the last stop in California stands out – not for it’s cold water temperatures of 13 degrees which have become a norm on the series – but more for its sunny climes. “It’s a little chilly in the water,” said Nathaniel Curran, “But it’s so nice out of the water. It’s warm and the sun is out. Seriously there’s not a cloud in the sky,” he said. The outside heat was almost enough to counteract the cold water completely. “It’s not too cold. I like it like this,” said Timmy Reyes. “I like the cold water. But I am actually sweating right now after that heat.” In an interesting development for the Cold Water Classic Series rankings, the current leader Blake Thornton was knocked out of the round of 96. In addition Glenn Hall – who was on form in Canada, and was another contender for the US$50,000 - was also knocked out of the round of 96. Their elimination puts the US$50,000 into the hands of either Jarrad Howse or Adam Melling – currently ranked second and fourth respectively. With both surfers due to get in the water tomorrow morning, they need to get through the first heat to be in with a chance – and the rest is then between them.

LOCAL SURFER PETER DEVRIES WOWS THE CROWDS AS BIG NAMES TAKE TO THE WATER FOR THE ONEILL COLD WATER CLASSIC CANADA THE MOST NORTHERN, THE MOST SOUTHERN, THE WILDEST, THE COLDEST & THE MOST CLASSIC SURF CONTEST ON THE PLANET Vancouver Island, Canada, October 27, 2009 As the ONeill Cold Water Classic Canada moved into the round of 96 on a crisp sunny Tofino day, the big names of surfing took to the cold Pacific waters. But it was local Canadian surfer, Peter Devries, who once again stole the show. Storming through his heat with a huge crowd cheering him on from the beach, Peter shone with a heat score of 14.27 against Hawaiian wonder-kid Dusty Payne, and South African star Damien Fahrenfort. I was a bit more nervous than usual before the heat. I didnt want to go in and just pull out a few low scores, Peter said. I could see the crowds on the beach but I couldnt hear them from the water. It was great to come out and have people cheering me up the beach. Surfing in his local conditions, Peter was comfortably warm despite the crisp cold. Its not too bad out there at the moment, said Peter. Its actually quite warm for this time of year. The same, however, could not be said for Hawaiian Dusty Payne. This is the coldest water I have ever touched in my life, said Dusty who made it through his heat behind Peter. I dont think I could ever acclimate to this. I was so cold out there I forgot sometimes that I was surfing a heat, I was just trying to stay warm. The Cold Water Classic Series is definitely is living up to its name here in Canada; Its great that ONeill is out finding surf in these remote wild places, said Dusty. I didnt imagine that it could be to the extent that they brought everyone to a snowboard area to surf! I feel like I should be holding a snowboard rather than a surfboard right now, he said. Cory Lopez, John John Florence and Charly Martin were three other big name warm water surfers from Florida, Hawaii and Guadeloupe respectively - who fought through the conditions to make it through to the next round of 48. Also through to the next round is Cold Water Classic Scotland winner, Lord Adam Melling who won his heat in which the other two local Canadian surfers; Sep Bruhwiler and event ambassador Noah Cohen, were unfortunately knocked out. I didnt ever think I would be coming to Canada to do a surf competition, said Adam. I kind of like it though. Usually when theres cold water or cold conditions theres swell with it, so Im not complaining. Ive looked a couple of photos of the plot of land in the Highlands that I got for winning the Scotland event, said Adam. Its pretty cool. I think I have used the Lord title that I won there once down my local pub! Although the swell had dropped slightly from yesterday, so, luckily, had the wind as the first heat kicked off in a one meter swell at Chestermans beach. However as the day progressed, so did the weather, with the winds picking up until the surf became uncontestable and the day was called off following heat 13 in the round of 96 ahead of some promising conditions for the days ahead. The next call will be at 8am tomorrow morning, Tuesday October 27th to start with heat 14 in the round of 96.

As the sets hit triple to quadruple overhead, producing the biggest conditions this competition has seen in its 12-year history, jet skis were deployed to help the surfers through the turmoil. “This is the biggest swell we’ve seen here this season,” said local surfer and O’Neill Wetsuits Marketing Manager, Kieran Horn, who won this competition in 2003, and is now the only Santa Cruz surfer through to the quarterfinals. In addition, the first ever O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series winner was decided today and will be presented with the award after the finals tomorrow. Australian Blake Thornton has claimed the staggering US$50,000 prize money despite being knocked out in the round of 96 here in Santa Cruz after both Jarrad Howse and Adam Melling failed to reach the points they needed to beat Blake to the prize.

THE MOST NORTHERN, THE MOST SOUTHERN, THE WILDEST, THE COLDEST & THE MOST CLASSIC SURF CONTEST ON THE PLANET It was a heat of Hollywood script proportions on this third day of competition at the O’Neill Cold Water Classic South Africa. The legend – Tom Curren, the South African surfing star of the moment – Jordy Smith, the young up-and-coming kid from Hawaii – John John Florence, and the outsider from Huntington Beach - Shaun Ward. It was the ending most probably would not have predicted. Finishing top, with a heat score of 15.77 was Shaun Ward who has been fighting hard on the tour since loosing his sponsors at the beginning of the season. And it was an impressive fight to win. “It’s funny because everyone’s been talking about that heat,” said Shaun. “Jordy is one of the best surfers in the world, hands down, and Tom is one of the best surfers of all time, and John John is kind of the prodigy, and I was kind of the underdog, but I like it,” he said. Sitting just behind him in second place with a heat score of 15.57 was the South African surfing phenomenon Jordy Smith. “I had been looking forward to the fact that I was in a heat with Tom Curren,” said Jordy. “I don’t know how many 21 year olds can say that they surfed against him in their career. So that was really cool. “Unfortunately he didn’t get the best waves but I am just stoked that I won my first heat against Tom Curren… or got second,” he said. After two days of the 6 Star ASP WQS event on hold due to a lack of swell, the third day of action in the water produced some epic 2 meter swell conditions at Steamer Lane. With crowds lining the sidewalks in the amphitheatre setting overlooking the break, the heat of the day came between the Hawaiian Sebastian Zietz who finished with a heat score of 18.74, and Australian Yadin Nicol who amassed a total heat score of 17.73 – both showing the full potential of the waves on offer at this world-class right hand point break. “The waves were going off,” said Sebastian. With conditions expected to improve tomorrow and with the swell forecast to reach the 3-4 meter range, things are only going to get better. The competition hasn’t been the only drama on this Northern Californian coast these past few days. Australian surfer Jarrad Howse was out freesurfing yesterday when Eric Geiselman had his board broken in two by a shark. “I was surfing yesterday with Mark Mathews, Dion Atikinson and a group of Americans up north a bit from Santa Cruz,” said Jarrad. “It was overcast and not great waves and there were a bunch of seals in the water and seagulls around, but you didn’t think about it too much.” “Just after I got out of the water a shark came up below Eric and broke his board in half,” he said. “He was pretty lucky. That would have been a close call.” Tomorrow looks to hold even more drama for the competition. With the event due to commence with heat 9 in the round of 48, the second heat of the day – heat 10 – will be the one to watch. Jarrad Howse will be lining up against Adam Melling – both O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series winner contenders – and both battling for the series prize of US$50,000.
