At what pan speed will a white picket fence not skew? Can the Sony EX1 film ceiling fans without it looking funky? These questions are answered in this video. Note: There was a titling issue for the fan tests. The order of the speeds is Low, Medium and then high for the last two shots.

Sony PMW-EX1 Water Drop at 60 Frames Per Second

Most of you will think this is like watching paint dry, but the new Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM EX camcorder is a work of art. I just bought this camera and love it. The solid state memory (SxS) sticks allow the camera to over-crank and under-crank, much like film cameras. This means that since no video tape is being used, the camera can record at different frame rates. So why is this important? Because we are use to watching TV at 30 frames per second. This camera records up to 60 frames per second. The result is super smooth slow motion because there are twice as many frames to play with when you slow the clip down. This video is an example of this. I must thank three people for helping me decide on this camera. The first person is TV Tim, thanks for the financial help. The second is my bud TJ. And finally, Philip Bloom. His website is filled with EX1 material that will knock your socks off. He is extremely talented and he has inspired me to shoot more than just sports. His website is: philipbloom.net More info about me at tomguilmette.com

Ashland Sunset - Letus Extreme Film - Sony EX1

My first film with the Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM EX camcorder. I have the Letus35 Extreme film lens adapter mounted on the front so that I can use my 35mm SLR prime lenses. This video was shot at Ashland State Park in Ashland, Massachusetts this afternoon. I shot everything except for the time lapse at the end in 720p 60 frames per second. This faster frame rate gives me more flexibility in super slow motion. I used a 50mm Nikon f1.4 prime for all the shots until the very end. The very last shot of the film was through my Vivitar 200mm f3.5 telephoto prime lens. I also zoomed the EX1 all the way in to get the tight shot of the sun as it dropped below the trees. The time lapse at the end was shot in 720p using frame interval recording. I set the camera to take 2 frames of video for every second that went by. I hope you enjoy this, I look forward to doing much more with the excellent camera. I edited this in Final Cut Pro and color graded with Magic Bullet Looks.
