Abel Ferrara’s Body Snatchers is the third screen version of Jack Finney's cold war science fiction novel Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Marty Malone (Gabrielle Anwar) is moving with her father, stepmother, and stepbrother to a military base where her father will investigate possible environmental and ecological problems. Before they get to town, Marty is warned in a gas station restroom by a crazed looking military man that, "They get you when you sleep!" Marty adjusts to life on the base by flirting with a young officer and making friends with the rebellious daughter of the base commander. These friends help her when a plot by aliens to turn all humans into unemotional, unfeeling "pod people" shifts into high gear. As her family and friends are attacked, Marty doesn't know who to trust. Act 1 Segment 1: What kind of rifle do military snipers use these days? Host R. Lee Ermey heads out to the range at the Marines' sniper training school, Camp Pendelton, California. He checks out these sharp shooters firing the super-accurate M40A3 rifle and also learns about the proper positioning and how to use the scope. Then he hunkers down and pops off a few rounds himself. The Gunny managed to hit targets more than 600 yards away! Short Answer 1: How accurate is a blow gun? These weapons have been used in various parts of the world for 40,000 years so there must be something good about them. R. Lee Ermey loads up a dart and plants it right in the middle of a watermelon. He also explains how ancient tribes added poison to their darts to make them lethal. Act 2 Short Answer 2: What is a mulberry harbor? During World War Two British and American forces concocted a bold and secret plan codenamed "Mulberry". In August 1943, the Allies started building huge artificial harbors at British shipyards. By May, 1944, they were towing huge floating concrete caissons across the English Channel and into position near Arromanches and Omaha Beach. We also sailed in 70 badly damaged ships destined for the scrap yard and sank them outside the mulberry harbors to create artificial breakwaters. Just after D-Day the caissons were attached to form harbors large enough to unload thousands of tons of supplies, helping the Allies keep their foothold in Europe.
