AN ALBUQUERQUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS HAVING A BIG PROBLEM THIS YEAR WITH PEOPLE SKATE BOARDING ON THE SCHOOL’S ROOF. IT'S JUST ONE OF THE MANY PROBLEMS ARROYO DEL OSO ELEMENTARY IS DEALING WITH RIGHT NOW. ONE STATE LAWMAKER IS EVEN STEPPING IN--- TO HELP FIGHT BACK. JOE IS LIVE NEAR LOUISIANA AND SAN ANTONIO WITH MORE. TONIGHT A TEACHER HERE TOLD ME SHE DOESN'T LET HER SON USE THE PLAYGROUND WITHOUT SUPERVISION BECAUSE OF EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENED HERE. BUT THE SCHOOL'S PRINCIPAL, STUDENTS AND NEIGHBORHOOD REFUSE TO LET VANDALS GET THE BEST OF THEM. ARROYO DEL OSO CERTAINLY DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A SKATE PARK---BUT THAT'S HOW SOME VANDALS ARE USING THE ROOF. 'Well I think that's horrible.'BECAUSE OUR TIME IS LIMITED FOR THIS STORY WE'LL QUICKLY RUN DOWN ALL THE VANDALISM THIS YEAR. SOMEONE HAS SET SMALL FIRES TO DUMPSTERS, AND GARBAGE CANS. VANDALS TORCHED THIS BRIDGE IN THE KINDERGARTEN AREA, AND PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. THEY'VE PAINT BALLED THE SCHOOL, TAGGED IT, EGGED IT, RIPPED OUT SOME TREES, BASHED OUT WINDOWS, USED VEHICLES TO TEAR UP GRASS AT THIS FIELD BEHIND THE SCHOOL. AND JUST RECENTLY SOMEONE BROKE INTO A CUSTODIAN'S CAR. 'It's kind of sad when you drive up and see the trees aren't here any more. Or the cans are burnt, or the bridge or the graffiti it's kind of upsetting.'THE SCHOOL HAS DONE SOME QUICK FIXES LIKE PUTTING UP THESE METAL GATES TO KEEP CARS OUT OF THE AREAS WHERE KIDS PLAY SOCCER.. AND HERE OFFICIALS PUT BARRIERS AROUND SOME PIPES SO KIDS CAN'T CLIMB TO THE ROOF TO SKATE. 'That, I go oh my word.'BUT THE SCHOOL HAS SENATOR DIANE SNYDER IN ITS CORNER. WORKING WITH A-P-S SHE PROPOSED AROUND A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS IN STATE FUNDS FOR A OVERHANG OF SORTS TO KEEP PEOPLE OFF THE ROOF. AND SOME MONEY WOULD BE USED FOR SECURITY CAMERAS. a recent durango city council meeting was for the birds. an amusing guest catches councilors by surprise — stirring up a ruckus in the council chambers. our four corners reporter erisa nakano has more on the case of the mysterious chicken. during a city council meeting in durango--councilo rs were focused and serious--until they were interrupted by an unexpected visitor. "he clucked around a little bit. he did one of these moves ." this recording of tuesday’s city council meeting shows that it wasn't what anyone had in mind. "haha" "an unidentified chicken came to our city council meeting tuesday night." in the middle of an executive session--a person dressed in a chicken costume made a lasting impression. "i hope the viewing audience understands that there is a chicken in the audience." the chicken attended the meeting to show support for an ordinance that was being talked about. if it passes--owning chickens could become legal in the city of durango. "it wasn't a threatening chicken or anything like that." durango mayor pro tem michael rendon introduced the "chicken ordinance" a year and a half ago. he says the chicken was very informed. "it was kind of nice to add a little mor. it wasn't an exciting meeting to begin with and in general, i actually found it refreshing to add humor to our regular meetings." the person behind the mask remains a mystery. "when the meeting was over, the chicken got up, squawked around a little bit, laid an egg and left.

Are mayor-elect’s new hires saving city money?

Albuquerque- mayor elect richard berry will be faced with a budget shortfall when he takes office. Some say it could be as high as 30-million dollars. Berry has been making a lot of new hires lately. We looked into how much money those new employees will be making — and if they’ll save the city any money. Jeff maher is live in the newsroom with what he learned. Jeff. A spokesman for richard berry says the soon to be mayor has appointed more than a dozen employees so far - most of whom make less than one-hundred thousand dollars per year. Compare that to what their predecessors were making - and it comes out to be 212,587 dollars in savings. But some say that comparison is misleading. ? Is mayor-elect richard berry being as fiscally conservative as he promised to be during his campaign ? His people gave us a comparison -- showing that the majority of his appointees are making less than their predecessors, even though most still make more than 90-thousand dollars per year. But they're comparing many of their new-hire salaries to previous employees who had been working under mayor martin chavez for several years and had gotten raises during that time. And two of the department heads are actually getting a salary increase, including family and community services -- --going from 97-thousand dollars under chavez to 107- thousand under berry: "i think that's going to come under more scrutiny as we go forward, if we start raising the spector of furloughing city employees, everything this mayor does in terms of how much he pays people and who he's hiring, there's going to be a higher bar because now people's livelihoods aron the line" City councilor brad winter says there were a lot of positions created under mayor chavez that berry should look at cutting. AN ALBUQUERQUE NEWLYWED. POLICE SAY IT’S A TRAGIC CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY. KAYLA ANDERSON IS LIVE AT APD HEADQUARTERS WITH DETAILS: THE VICTIM'S WIFE CALLED 911 AROUND 3:30 SATURDAY MORNING ... SAYING HER HUSBAND HAD JUST BEEN SHOT INSIDE THEIR NEW HOME. POLICE HAD NO CLUE THAT DAY WHY THE MAN WOULD HAVE BEEN TARGETED. BUT NOW THEY SAY HE WASN'T THE TARGET AT ALL ...
