I'm Dana Ward here with your sports news update. The Kansas Jayhawks won their third NCAA Basketball Championship after defeating the Memphis Tigers 75-68 on Monday. The game was close from the start but with just under two minutes Memphis began to pull away. The loss was only the second one this season for Memphis, which won an NCAA-record 38 games this season. The Detroit Tigers have still not won a game this season and are 0-7. The team, which has the league's second- highest payroll at $138 million, was favored by many to win their division and get to the World Series. The Tigers were dealt their latest loss by the Boston Red Sox, who won the game 5-0. So far this season, the Tigers have been outscored 44-15. Their struggles on the offense are especially vexing as the Tigers spent tens of millions of dollars acquiring Edgar Renteria and Miguel Cabrera. The team has also been hampered by injuries to key players as can be seen on their 15 day DL which includes Curtis Granderson and Fernando Rodney. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander summed up the team's feelings by saying "It's definitely embarrassing." He went to say that they were playing too "casual" and were wrong to think that things will come around on their own. Detroit lost their first 6 games and home and now face 5 straight road games against the Red Sox and White Sox. The NBA season is dr...
