Back in your own Backyard - Billie Holiday In New York on Janary 6 and January 12 1938 two recording sessions were organized. The first as Teddy Wilson and his Orchestra and the second as Billie Holiday and her Orchestra. A total of 12 tunes were recorded. Buck Clayton trumpet, Lester Young tenor sax, Teddy Wilson piano, Freddie Green guitar, Walter Page bass and Jo Jones drums. Billie did the vocals. Of course I cannot show you film of Billie singing this famous classic.This morning I filmed a number of shots from our own backyard as a background to this wonderful music of Billy and her fabulous swinging musicians.

No Regrets- Billie Holiday 1936 Billie became more recognized and would now record under her own name. In this first session on July 10 1926 it became Billie Holiday and her Orchestra. Her sidemen were Bunny Berigan trumpet, Artie Shaw clarinet, Joe Bushkin piano, Dick McDonough guitar, Pete Peterson bass and Cozy Cole drums. Even though Billie had never worked with most of these musicians before, she must have heard them in clubs around 52 Street and the results are obvious.

Nicknamed Lady Day by her sometime collaborator Lester Young, Holiday was a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style — strongly inspired by instrumentalists — pioneered a new way of manipulating wording and tempo, and also popularized a more personal and intimate approach to singing. Critic John Bush wrote that she "changed the art of American pop vocals forever." She co-wrote only a few songs, but several of them have become jazz standards --------------------------------------------------- Rowland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan (November 2, 1908 - June 2, 1942) was an American jazz trumpeter who rose to fame during the Swing Era, but whose virtuosity and influence were shortened by a losing battle with alcoholism that ended in his early death.
