The Horse Boy will do more than chronicle Rowan and his family’s journey across this vast, wild landscape. It will delve into the strange world of autism itself, examining the conflicting theories that try to explain its exponential from one child in ten thousand just a decade ago to, to today’s epidemic. It will examine the relationship between humans and animals, between different cultures, different ways of being (autistic versus normal, or ‘neuro-typical’), and the nature of healing – orthodox treatments versus the traditional arts. We will talk to the experts in the field, well-known researchers into autism such as Dr Simon Baron-Cohen of Cambridge University, Dr Temple Grandin, recovered autist and professor of animal behaviour at Colorado State University, and psycho-therapist and expert of shamanism Dr Bradford Keeney of the University of Arizona. We will talk to the shamans themselves, ask them just what is this thing called trance? And we will learn something about who we are, about where our world is right now (for an increasing number of biologists and medics trace autism’s rise with the accelerated upsurge in pollution, especially of heavy metals, caused by the greenhouse effect, which parallels Global Warming), and about the nature of love between human and animal, horse and boy, father and son.

Una indagine condotta per primi dalla PETA, rivela che il più grande mattatoio kosher del mondo,AgriProcessoers,sta ancora compiendo abusi sugli animali-mentre inganna consumatori e ai leader politici nel far creder che questo è stato fermato. Dopo che la nostra indagine del 2004 all'interno di AgriProcessors rivelò la sofferenza abominevole delle mucche ,il dipartimento dell' agricoltura degli Stati Uniti (USDA) affermò che lo stabilimento 'si era impegnato in atti di inumana macellazione'.AgriProcessors ha provato recentemente a riabilitare la sua reputazione offrendo un tour per rabini,leaders di comunità e giornalisti,selezionati.Il video del tour mostra la macellazione effettuata con un taglio per mezzo di un coltello nella gola di una mucca,così come si deve per la macellazione kosher. Ma quando un investigatore della PETA silenziosamente ritornato alla AgriProcessors nell'Agosto 2008,è stato testimone di qualcosa completamente diversa.A sole due settimane dal tour per rabbini,un investigatore sotto copertura ha filmato un operaio che stava incidendo crudelmente buchi nelle gole delle mucche durante la uccisione,facendo un taglio col coltello simile a quello che aveva messo nei guai in precedenza la AgriPocessors. Alla luce di questo nuovo video che svela i tagli che vengono scavati - a la condotta alquando differente della AgriProcessors quando sa di essere osservata-l'esperto di macellazione,il dott.Dr. Temple Grandin afferma:'il video sottocopertura ha mostrato chiaramente che quando pensano che nessuno li stia guardando,fanno cose malvage in questo stabilimento.' Per favore,abbiamo bisogno del vostro aiuto:richiedete che l'USDA richieda alla AgriProcessors di installare videocamere nello stabilimento che verrebbe monitorato da un controllore di terza parte al fine di far cessare dolore e sofferenze una volta per tutte.
