4 months of age is the absolute earliest you should offer a baby solids (or mashes, purees etc). Six months is the current recommendation for introducing anything other than breast milk or formula. We decided to offer Blake small amounts of pureed fruits in addition to his usual milk intake to help him with his constipation. It was either that or change his formula, didn’t want to do that because of the fact that he's thriving so well on his current formula. Just constipated. The pureed fruit fixes that little problem though. We are NOT replacing ANY milk feeds with solids. Babies are ready to be introduced to solids when they: - Have good head control and can hold it upright - Sit well when propped up - Are no longer satisfied with normal milk feeds - Open mouths when food approaches - May reach for food, have an interest in watching adults eat PS. I've spent around two years assisting disabled adults to eat, yet still find it incredibly impossible to feed a baby. Hm.
