One last diagram for 2009... this is a Flexagon I designed last october during the Octagons for October challenge at the Origami Tessellations group. I was inspired by Yami Yamauchi’s Fireworks modular, and set out to replicate the effect with a single sheet of paper. The model in the video was wetfolded from 10" x 20" Canson Colorline paper, colored with various spraypaints. Diagrams are here. And to bring things full circle, we'll end 2009 as we started it: with a new Snowflake CP from Jared. Happy New Year everyone!

This origami video shows how to make the head of a traditional origami crane in more detail. This inverting technique is commonly used in many other folds, so it's a good origami skill to learn. If you like this video, check out http://foldsomething.com for lots more.

This video shows how to make an origami bird base. As you might guess from the name, the bird base is used when making the traditional origami crane; however, it can be used as a starting point for other origami patterns as well so it's good to learn how to make this fold. This is sometimes called a "the sun and moon" origami or "star and moon" origami because it starts out as a ring and you have to transform it into a star. This is one of my all time favorite folds.

300 US$ Origami

The project 300 US$ origami proposes the manufacture of 300 pieces of origami made with dollar notes. These sculptures are to be placed all around the grass in Regent’s Park (200 units) and in the inner space of the Art Fair (100 units). They will be enclosed in methacrylate boxes (10 x 10 x 10 cm) affixed with an 1.70 meter high iron bars sunk into the ground (in Regent’s Park) or held on a stand (in the indoor space). This project deals with the value of the artwork, the artist’s work and the money. I use the money as raw material, clearly showing the price of the materials I’ve employed. Financial transparency was one of the principal objectives set out at the Washington meeting, attempting to improve the supervision and control mechanisms of the complex financial products and guaranteeing the companies’ “complete and exact transparency” to avoid “excessive risks”. 300 US$ origami involves a recreational approach. Origami is a tic-tac-toe which occupies our leisure time and is used as therapy or relief, but 300 US$ origami is an artistic work. Does art appears when the basic needs are covered and leisure time exists? In Spanish the verb doblar means “to double” and “to fold”. In 300 US$ origami, fold means to multiply the value of the object. With each fold I double the value of the object, putting a price on the work of my hands and brains. Materials: Methacrylate boxes (10 x 10 x 10 cm) (x 300 units) Iron bar (2 m) (x 200 units) Iron bar with an iron stand (1.70 m) (x 100 units) 300 US$ notes
