See life behinds the scenes at the race track and see how the equestrian athletes prepare to compete in this gambler's favorite sport. A horse is probably one of the most popular domestic animals or farm animals next to dogs and cats. Horses have provided many forms of support and entertainment for man. So when you see an ad for horses for sale you need to check if it will be a work horse or a race horse for horse racing and sometimes a horse for sale ad is for horse mating often with thoroughbreds. The population of wild horses unfortunately is in great danger, but in my opinion has the right to be wild and free- there is nothing like seeing a herd of wild horses running and enjoying horse games to play and be social with each other- Wow! There are many famous horses that aren’t even actual horses like Crazy Horse the Native American, or the Trojan Horse from Greek tales (mythology maybe?), or a rocking horse for child’s play, a water horse in the movie “The Water Horse”, or sea horses that are real but not the horses people usually refer to when saying “horse”. Despite all the many non horses with horse names, you will rarely meet a horse with no name at a race track because their owners usually come up with names that they think will be lucky. I don’t know if the quarter horses receive outlandish names like the horses that compete since the quarter horses only run 1/4 of a mile. If you ever visit a track and are able to go behind the scenes, so to speak as I was fortunate enough to be able to do, you will see a lot of horse trailers and used horse trailers with and without horses, depending upon when you arrive- the AM work out starts at the crack of dawn- literally sometimes before the resident roosters start to crow. Between workouts and races the horses are kept in little horse barns or stables to prevent injury, although sometimes they get lonely and may have a goat or other farm animal to keep these social animals company. The jockeys also keep the h...

This video was taken during a photo tour at Turpentine Creek sometime between the early Spring of 2004 and the mid fall of 2007. Turpentine Creek does not buy, sell or breed their cats. You should NEVER support any facility calling themselves a sanctuary if they do. Real sanctuaries do not buy, sell or breed. All cats deserve to be in large habitat yards and not cages. Funds raised from photo tours at TCWR goes toward building more habitat yards in an effort to get all cats out of cages and into habitat yards. Big cats should NEVER be pets, should never be used in performing acts such as circuses or magic shows, please do not pay to see such acts. If you pay to see such acts you are jsut as guilty of the cruelty toward those performing animals as are those inflicting the cruelty. You should not support unaccredited "roadside wanna be zoos" either as they do not adhere to high standards of care for the animals nor high standards of safety the animals, staff and public. Proper sanctuaries are over full and bursting at the seams with former pets, former performers, throw away, unwanted, discarded big cats. If you are not part of the solution to end the causes that create these unwanted, abused and abandoned animals, then you are supporting the root of the problem. The practices that cause so many wild animals to need sanctuary are not going to stop unless the public learns to stop supporting and ignoring the causes.

In the United States alone, between 3 and 4 million cats and dogs are euthanized each year for lack of homes to adopt them, according to the Humane Society of the United States. As a result, most humane societies, animal shelters and rescue groups urge pet owners to have their pets spayed or neutered to prevent the births of unwanted and accidental litters. Pet overpopulation can be an ecological concern as well as a concern over animal welfare, with overpopulation occurring when there are more domestic cats and dogs than there are people wanting them as pets, independent of ecological carrying capacity. It is also a financial problem: Capturing, impounding and eventual euthanasia costs taxpayers and private agencies millions of dollars each year, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. Although the term overpopulation is a generic term, true overpopulation means that there are actually more pets available than there are homes available. If one examines the numbers of homes which are seeking pets (as an example) and finds that 100 of those homes want pets which are, say, 1yr old and of a pure breed under 25 pounds, then to say that overpopulation exists simply because not all of the animals in a shelter will meet the desired criteria (1yr old/purebred under 25lb) is not exactly overpopulation. The fact that some shelters elect to kill animals is not necessarily indicative of overpopulation, as there is no standard for shelters reporting, tabulating, counting or categorizing their numbers/stats nationwide; in fact, it is not even known exactly how many animal shelters exist in the Unite...

Undercover Investigation Reveals Horrors in India's Dairy IndustryPETA India's recent undercover investigation of several dairy farms revealed shocking cruelty to cows and buffaloes. Tabelas -- animal factories with no provisions for health care or animal welfare -- are steadily replacing small family farms.Buffaloes in Delhi's main dairy facility stand knee-deep in foul-smelling excrement, suffering from skin infections, foot disease and other illnesses. Garbage is piled up everywhere. Drainage, electricity and designated waste disposal sites are lacking. In Mumbai, calves are tightly tethered on short ropes in order to prevent them from reaching their mothers, but in their struggle to get free, they often become entangled in the ropes and strangle themselves. One dairy owner reported that half the calves die shortly after birth. An Endless Cycle of AbuseCows are beaten into submission and artificially inseminated so that they will keep producing milk. Although this practice should be performed by trained professionals, most cows are repeatedly inseminated by "barefoot healers" who ignore the most basic hygienic standards and use equipment that has not been sterilised, exposing cows to infections and diseases. Most of a cow's day is spent confined to a narrow, filthy stall. Cows are injected with Oxytocin, an illegal drug that causes them to produce unnaturally large quantities of milk and suffer severe stomach cramps as though they were in labour. Cows are impregnated repeatedly. They grieve for every calf they deliver who is ripped away a few days after birth. Cows often develop mastitis -- an infection of the udders -- from rough handling and rumen acidosis from unwholesome food.Other abuses documented by PETA's investigator include: * Calves were tethered with short chains, often without any shelter. * Workers kicked buffaloes to make them stand. Injured animals were hit with sticks and pulled by their tails. * Bleeding buffaloes were denied veter...

Mary Catalano of Rescue Roundtable interviews Whitney Smith of Californians for Humane Farms about the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruely Act which provides the most basic protection to farm animals: merely allowing them to turn around and extend their limbs. It's hard to imagine a more moderate initiative. The purpose of the measure is to prevent three of the most cruel and inhumane forms of extreme confinement in the world of animal agribusiness: veal crates, battery cages, and gestation crates. All three of these practices have already been legislated against in the European Union. Factory farm waste is a major pollution issue. Each year in the U.S., confined farm animals produce almost 500 million tons of manure, which frequently pollutes water and air and, in the process, harms rural communities. Factory farm waste also emits greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change. Please visit www . HumaneCalifornia . org
