Barack Obama Ã¨ stato eletto 44Â° presidente degli Stati Uniti d'America. Una scelta storica: dopo otto anni di presidenza Bush, l'America ha votato per il senatore dell'Illinois, 47 anni, il primo nero a insediarsi alla Casa Bianca dopo 232 anni dall'Indipendenza dall'Inghilterra. "Con questa elezione il cambiamento Ã¨ arrivato in America". Queste le prime parole di Barack Obama davanti ai suoi sostenitori dopo l'annuncio della vittoria, che il senatore ha dedicato alla sua famiglia e a sua nonna, appena scomparsa. "Gli Stati Uniti - ha continuato il presidente eletto - sono un posto dove tutto Ã¨ possibile". Obama ha poi lanciato un messaggio di unitÃ , al paese e ai suoi avversari: "Siamo e saremo gli Stati Uniti d'America, abbiamo dimostrato al mondo intero che non siamo semplicemente una collezione di individui di tutti i tipi". Un messaggio anche per McCain, con l'annuncio di voler lavorare insieme per rinnovare il paese. Una vittoria di grandi numeri: con alcuni stati ancora da assegnare, il senatore democratico Ã¨ arrivato a quota 338 grandi elettori. Alla fine dovrebbe superare quota 360. Nei voti popolari il risultato finale dovrebbe attestarsi sul 51% a 48%. La notte elettorale Ã¨ iniziata con il testa a testa in Florida e Ohio, due stati conquistati da Bush nel 2004 ma che Obama Ã¨ riuscito ad aggiudicarsi. L'equilibrio iniziale si Ã¨ trasformato con il passare delle ore in una valanga di voti che hanno colorato di blu - il colore del Partito Democratico - la mappa degli stati. I grandi stati del nord est, tradizionalmente democratici, non hanno tradito Obama, cosÃ¬ come Michigan, Illinois e Wisconsin. La Pennsylvania, uno degli Stati in bilico dove McCain poteva conquistare voti importanti, Ã¨ rimasta in mani democratiche: Ã¨ stato il primo vero segnale della vittoria. Ma il passaggio decisivo c'Ã¨ stato quando, col passare dei minuti, Ã¨ arrivata la certezza della vittoria nell'Ohio e, subito dopo, anche nell'Iowa. Infine, la Florida: 51% a 48% con 27 grandi elettori che rappresentano una meritata rivalsa dopo la truffa di otto anni fa. Hanno votato per Obama anche il Colorado, il New Mexico e gli stati della costa Ovest: California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada e Hawaii, che hanno portato alle 11 di sera (le cinque del mattino in Italia) la matematica certezza della vittoria. Il senatore John McCain ha aspettato la certezza matematica della sconfitta per comparire davanti alle telecamente e riconoscere la vittoria all'avversario: "Ho avuto l'onore di congratularmi con il senatore Obama - ha detto McCain ai suoi sostenitori - che questa notte Ã¨ diventato il nuovo presidente degli Stati Uniti". Complimenti telefonici anche dal presidente uscente, George W. Bush. "Presidente eletto, mi congratulo", avrebbe detto chiamando Obama: "Che fantastica notte per lei, la sua famiglia e i suoi sostenitori.
