Dean Martin (Steubenville (Ohio), 7 juni 1917 Beverly Hills (Californië), 25 december 1995) was een Amerikaans filmacteur en zanger. Dino Paul Crocetti werd geboren in een Italiaans-Amerikaanse familie in Steubenville (Ohio). Hij verliet de school op 16-jarige leeftijd en had verschillende baantjes voordat hij zijn naam veranderde en succes kreeg als zanger in de clubs van New York. De eerste keer dat hij met Jerry Lewis samenwerkte was op 25 juli 1946 in Club 500 in Atlantic City en samen ontwikkelden ze een succesvolle komedieroutine. Het duo maakte hun eerste film My Friend Irma in 1949 en in 1951 speelden ze een rol in de filmhit At War with the Army. De dertien films die ze daarna maakten waren op de formule van deze film gebaseerd. Hun gezamenlijk televisiedebuut was in 1950 in The Colgate Comedy Hour, een gevarieerde show die zij tussen 1950 en 1955 ook af en toe zouden presenteren. De samenwerking met Lewis werd op 24 juli 1956 afgebroken en tot veler verrassing had Dean Martin hierna een succesvolle solocarrière. In de jaren '60 was hij lid van de Rat Pack, een beroemde/beruchte vriendenclub met wie hij een aantal populaire films maakte. Hij speelde geheim agent Matt Helm in vier films (1966-1969) en tussen 1965 en 1974 presenteerde hij zijn eigen wekelijkse televisieprogramma, The Dean Martin Show op NBC. Zijn teruglopende gezondheid en populariteit zorgden ervoor dat hij vanaf de jaren '70 alleen nog veel theaterwerk deed. In 1988 trok hij zich compleet terug uit de showbusiness nadat hij tijdens een tour met andere Rat Pack-leden Frank Sinatra en Sammy Davis, Jr. ziek werd. Uiteindelijk heeft hij in 51 films een rol gespeeld. Hij was drie keer getrouwd en had acht kinderen waarvan één geadopteerd. Zijn zoon Dean Paul Martin Jr. kwam om het leven in een vliegtuigongeluk op 21 maart 1987. Dit was opnieuw een zware aanslag op zijn gezondheid. so the amazing Taylor Swift invited me to join her in the UK at Wembley Stadium and Manchester Arena. Only problem is that at Wembley in front of 12,000 people I fractured my foot during ONE TIME and had to finish the song on a broken foot. haha. Taylor told me to break a leg before the show.
