Chopper + Cruiser Disassembly for CYCLE TRADER Biker Build-Offs

Watch and listen to Artist Wilbur Craig take apart one of his Cruisers and Choppers and then put them back together again. Wilbur's art, "Wood Art In Motion," has been custom-ordered and commissioned by major companies like Cycle Trader and Caterpillar to display the art at their headquarters, dealerships, executive's offices, or as special gifts for customers, employees and vendors, or as auction items for charity. And of course, individual transportation enthusiasts and collectors of all sorts have custom-ordered their favorite car, motorcycle, train, jet, tractor or bulldozer. Most recently, Wilbur was commissioned by CYCLE TRADER to create multiple motorcycles for "Biker Build-Offs" in which cycle enthusiasts will compete to put the all wood replicas together in 2-3 minutes. This video will illustrate and compare Wilbur's full-blown art vs his scaled down versions. Wilbur’s typical cycle art: 3,000 wood pieces (complete disassembles down to the frame and the motor) 16” long 9” high (w/out windshield) CYCLE TRADER commissioned a scaled down version of Wilbur’s art but much larger for their "Biker Build-Offs." 12 wood pieces 36” long 22” high (w/out windshield) Making his art only 12 pieces and 20” longer was quite a challenge for Wilbur - so he says… but of course HE DID IT! One Word? Yep, I know…. WOW!!!

Grumman 870 Bus, 1980's Grumman Flxible 8-V71N DD Engine

Grumman 870 Flxible Bus, early model, sounding exactly like those old MTA Long Island Bus N24 route, Jamaica Ave, Jericho Turnpike line, IIRC. Bus # unknown. Engine apparatus definately a Detroit Diesel, 8V71 N. Allison Designed for or sold to Grumman Allied Industries Inc. for Rohr Inc. Industries, late 1970's. I could be wrong here. Anyhow, there was a dispute ensuing. The 8-V71N was used almost exclusively for Grumman 870 express buses in Queens and Manhattan, e.g. Steinway Transit and early Queens Surface Corp, though the latter I'm not entirely sure about. This engine was also used for Long Island Buses beginning at Jamaica Terminal, e.g. N24. This is 80's music to me. I remember the great acceleration the 8-V71 N had. Last I'd ridden one was in 1987. If you lived near Jamaica Avenue or Jericho Turnpike, i.w. N24 buses, etc., the sound of that huge 8-V71 Grumman 870 Flxible is all you knew. Likewise, if you lived where QM1 Steinway and Queens Surface express buses rode, e.g. Flushing, Jackson Heights, Rego Park, Lefrak City/Horace Harding Expressway, Queens Boulevard, Qnz Plaza, the 8-V71 N sound on Grumman 870 Flxibles would have been all you knew. Remember the back of the bus, the roof exhaust pipe flap/cover constantly clattering. The picture of the bus used, the classic NYCTA Grumman 870 museum piece, looks exactly like those Long Island/Jamaica N24's, i.e. the Grumman Flxible 870's. Some GMC or early TMC RTS buses were also equipped, though i'd never heard one. So have a listen. You may recall hearing those speedy 8V71 Grumman 870 Flxible buses, QM1 or N24 possibly. Superbus. Ultrarare. The Flxible Metro series buses were never, or rarely powered with these engines, if I'm correct. I used to think all Grumman 870's sounded like this, and they all did as far as my experience went. Now, don't get me wrong here: I like the Flxible Metro bus series, but not as I like urban Grumman 870 8V71 Express series. Ultrarare.
