Well Hey,  Flickr :) {106/365}

Video numero uno of me, Whitney. Hope you all enjoy. :) Haha, oh gosh, wow this is awkward. I just realized how fast I talk in this video, and how terribly I explain myself. Who knew 1:30 could go by so fast. ;) And I look really tired... Hmm, probably has something to do with the fact that I stayed up until 3 am last night. My bad. :) Okay, so there were some questions I would really like to answer, but I didn’t have time to do so in the video, so I'm going to answer them here: * MaryClaire: Where does your real name come from?= Honestly, I was named after Whitney Houston. No lies. This, of course, was before she was hooked on crack and my parents loved her. ;) I was almost named Stephanie, by the way. * DebbieLiane: Who is your biggest inspiration?= My parents and God, first of all, because I don't know where I would be without them. Photographically, I would have to say I am inspired by anyone who I mentioned in my gallery. Go there to learn more, please. :) Also, anyone who has ever done something kind for me; they are inspiring more than anything. * Shelbaby: Would you rather be ductaped or blindfolded for a day?= Definitely ducttaped. I couldn't stand not being able to see anything. I'm a really visual person, so I have to be able to see. My mouth, on the other hand, I can learn to control. * Jessieroth: Favorite book or quote?= My favorite book is probably one called "I, Mona Lisa" by Jeanne Kaloridis along with the scriptures. My favorite quote is basically anything said on "Psych" or "Gilmore Girls". * KatieOak: Have you ever uploaded a photo to put across a meaning to family or friends who would see it?= Not going to go into detail with that one, sorry, but I would have to say yes. There was something that was really bugging me at the time, and I was lucky enough to resolve the issue because of this picture. * Sincerely Sarah: What have you always wanted to do, but never had the guts to do it?= I've always wanted to skydive, but I'm terrified of heights and I know I would not survive. haha. Yeah, not even going to mess with that one... And, I would also love to go deep sea scuba diving. Extremes, right? P.S. While this video was being processed, I had time to change two loads of laundry, get locked out of my room (I forgot the key accidentally), run to the food center lobby to get a spare key, get dinner, and make it back in time to write this description. ...And it still wasn't done. Yeeah.) P.P.S. Wow, nice freeze frame, Flickr... Thanks.

Soooo, this is just a short video of the characters. I used Icyprincess’s art because they're awesome! but the story is all mine. check it outtt: +++ As I gazed out to the sunlit window, my mind flowed like a lake in the spring time. The richness of the blue, the sound of water crashing together, & the mere peace of it , just reminded me of what a wonderful summer this was going to be. I glanced over at my best friend who was softly asleep.. while also drooling on my shoulder. "Taylor!", I half whispered and half screamed. "Hmm..?", she replied with some more drool. " I think we we're almost there! " I said and returned looking back out the window. We were driving up to my grandma's cottage in Texas for the summer & Taylor, my best friend since we were in diapers, was coming along. "Selena! Are you serious?! I cant wait to start our vaycay!" she said while not even trying to hide her excitement . I chuckled while she began texting her big sister in California. They were really close, which sometimes made me jealous. But then I reminded myself of how incredibly messy Taylor is. How messy her room is? Lets not even go there. As soon as we got there, it was a whole family reunion mixed with Taylor's introduction. My grandma gave her a huge hug, since I talk about her alot . I swear, I think I saw her gasping for air a little bit .. but then again, thats my family. The rest of the time we spent there, was sort of a colourful blur. The feeling I had was unexplainable. Have you ever had that feeling that your life is finally falling into place? That maybe after a gruesome juniour year in high school and a bitter divorce between your parents, that maybe.. just maybe your can finally enjoy your life? Well, I have. I didnt know it at first, but when one night I could'nt sleep, I went downstairs to make some hot cocoa for myself. I saw my grand mother sitting at the dining room table. "Grandmama?" I asked. "Ohh! Selena.. I didnt see you there." she said as if she had just been caught doing drugs. I guess she just found out about the divorce. " How are you feeling, dear? " she asked. I gazed at her & smiled. " I cant sleep. " I said truthfully yet with a little sarcasm. She looked at me in a way no one has ever looked at me before. Her beautiful emerald green eyes were searching. She rested her hand on her chin and I saw a smile forming. " What? " I asked. She took my hand and held it for a long time while locking her eyes into mine. " The reason why you cant sleep.. is because finally, reality is better than your dreams." I dont know how long we looked at eachother, but I do know that we ended it with a big hug & I ended up sleeping right beside her listening to her sing me to sleep. On the last day, I felt like crying. I really did. I had such a great time .. that I didnt want to leave. Not for one second. After the goodbye's, I helped Taylor pack the remaing suitcases. I was just about to make a joke about my grandma hugging her too hard, when she dropped. Fainted. Black-ed Out. "TAYLOR!" I screamed. Screamed so, so hard. After hours of waiting, the doctor finally came out. We were at the local hospital .. I had read every magazine & poster in the room and had satisfied my hunger with one Mr. Pepper. I ran up to him & then stopped, realizing I was some reason scared for what he was about to say. "I'm sorry. We did alot of tests to find the root of the attack and we found.. that she has a very weak heart. We dont know how long she will survive." And then.. I fainted. Wanna hear the end to this beautiful story? Rest assure, this is not like any other story.. we still have yet to see what Demi has to bring to the table. STAY TUNEDD!

A Taste of Malaysia's "Cultural Diplomacy"

Kean Wong: New Yorkers and foreign diplomats are in for a special treat at the United Nations this week. Reporter Shelley Zhang has more. You might think of the United Nations as the place where diplomats discuss the most serious of international political issues. But have you ever thought about the cultural side of diplomacy? Well, Wednesday night, at the launch of the Malaysia-Melaka Food Festival, Malaysia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations showcased one of the best parts of cultural diplomacy—delicious food. The festival, hosted by the Permanent Mission, as well as Tourism Malaysia, and Perwakilan New York, is an opportunity for the organizers to share the food and culture of Malaysia with UN members and New Yorkers alike. Running from May 12th through the 23rd at the UN Delegates Dining Room, the food festival highlights how Malaysia, like the United Nations, is the product of a rich cultural stew. Organizers flew several of Malaysia's top chefs to New York for the festival, and they gave a sneak peek of their culinary masterpieces, and a workshop on Malaysian cuisine, last Sunday. A special feature of the food festival is nyonya cuisine, a unique blend of Chinese and Malaysian food. Its roots stretch back to the 15th Century, when Chinese merchants settled down in the trade port of Melaka. For celebrity chef Florence Tan, a household favorite in Malaysia and champion of nyonya cooking, the magic of nyoyna cuisine is in its literal melting pot of flavors…and cultures. [Florence Tan, Celebrity Chef]: (begins at 1:38 ) "It is so special because there are many cuisines interwoven into one cuisine, and we can have the hot, the spicy, the stir fry, many, many types of cuisine, where we have the different textures, where we use a lot of herbs, the aromatic herbs, for example we have the squashed ginger flower, and we have the kaffir lime leaves, everything that makes a special, spectacular dish." Both Chef Florence and her fellow celebrity chef Ismail were quite excited about cooking at the United Nations. ["Chef Ismail", Celebrity Chef]: (begins at 2:14 ) "To cook at the United Nations--not everybody is invited. The best thing is that the whole world is under one roof, and we are feeding the whole world under one roof, and you are very honored." [Florence Tan, Celebrity Chef]: (begins at 2:42 ) "Food brings people together, so it is an honor for me to bring our local food, nyonya cuisine, into New York, where we will share this wonderful cuisine with all the New Yorkers, with all the people around the world who work in the United Nations. And through our food, they will learn about our cuisine, our festival, our culture, our life." Datin Amy Hamidon is the president of Perwakilan and the wife of the Malaysian ambassador to the UN. She says New York is a great place to showcase Nyonya heritage. [Datin Amy Hamidon, President, Perwakilan]: (begins at 1:34 ) "For people to recognize that we have this heritage, that we have this superb, not just food, we have a lavish Baba Nyonya culture." Other organizers hope that an introduction to Malaysian cuisine will help pique people's interest in traveling to the country as well. [Mohamad Taib Ibrahim, VP, Tourism Malaysia NY]: (Start at 1:25 ) "It's a worldwide exercise, whereby we want to showcase to the world that being a multicultural country, we have a multi, diverse type of food. We want to show to the world that the genuine authenticity of the food will entice visitors to come to Malaysia." [Standup] Whether they have never tasted Malaysian food before, or are familiar with the intricacies of nyonya cuisine, the hundreds of people who come to the UN Delegates Dining Room over the course of the next week are sure to taste something special. This is Shelley Zhang, NTD New York.
