Sette ingressi, sette tunnel, sette viaggi attraverso altrettanti ambienti esperienziali optical alla ricerca dell'unita' finale. op7 is a live audiovisual performance that develops a new way of reading the concept of the tunnel as a metaphor of the journey and the survey about the audiovisual perception, through the optical language. The project was realized for the Mixed Media festival taking place at the Hangar Bicocca in front of the installation “Seven Heavenly Doors” of Kiefer. Seven entrances, seven tunnels, seven journeys throughout as many experience optical environments looking for the final entire and unique wholeness.

Conceived for the ImproVisual section of the Prague Biennale (May 2003) this audiovisual performance originated from the obscure musical weavings of Dies_ and Maikko. The graphic images come from Mud and xo00’s laptops: the former supplying mutant architectural environments within a 2D/3D ambiguity, the latter creating mouse-dragged planes and transparencies. The live mix of the two visual sources in a chromatically homogeneous vectorial composition gives birth to abstract and evocative landscape. visuals: mud, xo00 sound: dies_, maikko, total time: around 40’

The tale This work starts exploring an organism-landscape whose functions have been split into three main parts: the first one refers to its articulations, the second – more fluid – to its vital organs and the last part to its remains, where the body regenerates itself in the shape of a chrysalis. The plot of the work revolves around the relationship between the structure and the body that moves and develops within. The latter, in the beginning seems to be subject to the grid’s restrictions; it then deforms the grid until it frees itself, mixing with the grid and generating a new structural cage. The second phase represents the initial hyerarchical relationship within a continuous flow of organic shapes. The last phase features the generation of a new organism from the remains of the old one. The techniques Two sources are mixed on the screen: the first one is the 3D rendering that composes the narrative plot of the main body and its deformations; the second source is given by AVS files that move geometrically following the sound input coming from a laptop where the whole sound performance is carried out live. The visualization The performance requires two screens. The first one shows a zenital, projectual view of the work characterized by essential graphics, based on the wireframe render of the figures. The second screen shows the 3D renderings mixed with the AVS source. A DVD one-screen version of the work was made to allow a wider screening possibility; this priviliges the 3D-rendering images with their full, ‘bodily’ impact. audio and video: dies_ Total time: 30' otolab 2005

This audiovisual performance is based on the concept of “garden as vision of soul” and has been realized trought a complex, non-linear storyboard. Images and sounds are mixed during live performance to ricreate a night time garden onirical sinestesic experience. Bio : Otolab was born in 2001 in Milan as an affinity group made up of musicians, djs, vjs, video artists, video makers, web designers, graphic designers and architects who embarked on a common path within electronic music and audiovisual research. Otolab projects evolve through laboratory, seminar and liveset activities following principles of mutual exchange and support, free dissemination of knowledge and experimentation. The work-group is composed of individual and collective projects ranging from djing/vjing sets up to livemedia and interactive installations, always investigating a symbiotic relationship between sounds and images. These years of life have seen Otolab being invited to national and international festivals where it has presented its livesets, project presentations and installations, besides having promoted self-managed cultural initiatives. Otolab is today a cultural association which lives off its self-produced livesets, installations, audio and audiovisual productions Audio: mud, _dies Visuals: mud, xo00 - software implementation: orgone Website : www.otolab.net Vidéos : http://www.vimeo.com/otolab FESTIVAL CINESTHESY 1.0 du 27 Octobre au 1 Novembre 2008 Co-production LES PIXELS TRANSVERSAUX CENTRE MADELEINE REBERIOUX (Créteil / France) Art Director Yroyto Coordinator Amélie Dessaux Director François Demange Cameraman François Pirault Haythem Zakaria WWW.CINESTHESY.COM
