Hồi ký “Thép Ðen” tập I và tập II được phát hành từ năm 1987. Năm năm sau tập III mới ra đời và đến nay tác giả mới hoàn tất được cuốn hồi ký này. Trong buổi ra mắt “Thép Ðen” tập IV này, tác giả và nhà xuất bản cũng cho tái bản ba tập trước. Theo tác giả Ðặng Chí Bình cho biết thì ông khởi đầu cuốn hồi ký này từ năm 1985 và mãi đến nay mới hoàn tất được vì nhiều lý do. Ông nói: “Từ khi Thép Ðen I và II được in tính đến nay đã 15 năm. Sở dĩ cho đến nay mới hoàn tất được vì trong thời gian 15 năm qua, tôi, phần vì sức khỏe, phần vì gánh nặng gia đình, nên không thể viết lách gì được, cũng không cả sinh hoạt báo chí nữa. Nhưng vì độc giả ở nhiều nơi thúc bách quá nên tôi đã hết sức cố gắng để hoàn tất cho bằng được, trả cái ơn tri ngộ với bạn đọc.” Hồi ký “Thép Ðen” tuy chưa hẳn là một “best seller“trong thị trường chữ nghĩa ở hải ngoại nhưng đa số những cựu tù nhân chính trị, những người từng ở tù Cộng Sản đều có đọc và truyền tay nhau đọc. Do đó mà “Thép Ðen” tập I và II đã phải tái bản đến lần thứ ba. Nhà thơ lừng danh tả về cái ác của chế độ lao tù CS, Nguyễn Chí Thiện, có mặt trong buổi ra mắt sách này bầy tỏ: “Chúng ta đã được đọc khá nhiều hồi ký của những người cựu tù trong chế độ lao tù Cộng Sản. Mỗi cuốn hồi ký là một mặt của vấn đề, nhưng theo tôi, “Thép Ðen” là cuốn hồi ký trung thực nhất về những điều mà người tù mấy chục năm Ðặng Chí Bình đã phải trải qua. Những sự việc được tả chân, những tâm tư được diễn tả chân thực mà mỗi người cựu tù khi đọc đều thấy có mình trong đó.” Nhà văn nhà báo Ðỗ Tiến Ðức, trong phần phát biểu cảm tưởng đề cập đến giá trị văn chương của tác phẩm. Ông nói: “Tác giả cuốn hồi ký “Thép Ðen”Ðặng Chí Bình không nhận mình là nhà văn, nhưng ông đã là nhà văn thực sự qua những tập hồi ký này.” Ông Ðỗ Tiến Ðức còn nhắc lại cái thời tác giả Ðặng Chí Bình chưa là một gián điệp viên của miền Nam, thì người học sinh tên Châu, tên đời thường của Ðặng Chí Bình, từng là một học sinh di cư sống cùng anh chị em học sinh di ...

Streets at Night were recorded with Canon EOS 5D Mark II few hours after I got the demo unit. I quickly went through manual to find the buttons I needed, because I am a Nikon user and I was not familiar with the camera. Lenses I used were: EF85mm f/1.8 USM, EF16-35mm f/2.8L USM and EF15mm f/2.8 Fisheye. I probably had the settings wrong, didn’t know about the lock exposure button and more, but I didn't took the time to search on all the sites that describe shooting video mode with 5D.]]>

This is some video I shot on the day I bought the Canon HV20. Sorry, I don't remember the settings. Probably auto everything. Nishi Shinjuku is home to a huge Yodobashi Camera store (where I bought the HV20). Actually, I think there are something like five separate Yodobashi stores in Nishi but one is simply gigantic. There is also a main bus terminal here. For such narrow roads, Japan certainly has large buses.

Lulay - Philippine Folk Song

A few among those Philippine dances which can be classified as a "national" folk dance. This dance is also available in versions from Ilo-ilo, Mindoro, Laguna and Leyte. The version from Leyte appeared in the book "MGA AMBAHAN" (1906) by the famous Waray writer Vicente de Veyra. All versions of the Lulay use the same "basic" melody. The melody first appeared in the book "Bajo de los Cocoteros". It ranks among the popular love songs in the country. It was also published in Madrid by Graciano Lopez-Jaena (from Ilo-ilo, ring any bell?) in Aires Felipinas (Philippine Airs) The most popular version of the Lulay song is probably the one from the Tagalog region During the American occupation some folksongs were translated to English, the Lulay was published but was entitled "Boanerges Serenade".
