The Chieftains recorded this on their eponymous first album. I used to play it with tin whistle player, Tom Ryan of Sudbury, ON. It’s cheerful tune, however the term "brown box" is an Irish euphemism for a coffin. There is, however, another hornpipe called the Brown Coffin, that is completely different.
