This storm started in north Amarillo and absolutely turned into monster! I usually prefer getting behind a storm and chasing it, but this storm ended up chasing me. I would videotape and run...videotape and run. I heard on the radio, are you ready for this? Volleyball size hail! No way was I going to get caught in this storm so it ended up chasing me for 65 miles before I could find a way through it with out getting hurt. When I got back to Amarillo, I saw car lots, and cars at the mall that had been absolutely destroyed by the hail of this storm. It was unbelievable!

We knew very little about storm structure or forecasting back then, but we learned fast on May 3, 1999. This video is a great example of how NOT to safely storm chase. Seeking shelter under an overpass is a HUGE mistake, since the winds actually accelerate there when a tornado approaches. After sustaining a near-direct hit from a half-mile wide F-4 tornado, the TornadoVideos.net team documented two more tornadoes occurring simultaneously near De Smet, SD. After driving underneath a developing tornado, a crazy South Dakota farmer freaks out as a second tornado churns on the horizon. This farmer is the most hillarious person you will ever hear on video.
