Short Films - This is a clip from a musical comedy set in the fast-paced, fast-food world of competing falafel stands on the West Bank. First-time Academy Award Nominee Ari Sandel's career in the entertainment industry includes television, film, and music videos. Previously, Ari created and hosted the comedic TV segment, THE TRAVELER, for the FX Channel's, THE X SHOW . Ari wrote, directed, and hosted the segment for two seasons as he traveled the globe, offering a tongue-in-cheek view of the world's unknown hot spots for the young and hip. His most recent project, VINCE VAUGHN'S WILD WEST COMEDY SHOW: 30 DAYS & 30 NIGHTS - HOLLYWOOD TO THE HEARTLAND (2006), was his feature documentary directorial debut and premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. Oscar Nominated Short Films are being released theatrically nationwide on February 16, 2007 by Magnolia Pictures and Shorts International. The playdate schedule is on the Mag Pictures site.

Food for Thought

Can cannibalism lead to love? In the dark-comedy style of "Creepshow" and "Tales from the Crypt," "Food for Thought" (one of only 18 short films purchased by HBO in 2001) features Emmy nominated actor David Ogden Stiers ("MASH") as the professor who teaches his class that worms can acquire the knowledge of other worms by digesting their brain matter. One student (Brian David Cohen) decides to put it to the test with humans, and each time the pretty classmate he's trying to win over (Emily Harrison) suggests there may be some quality he could have that she would be attracted to, his hunger for knowledge grows. With a twist ending, "Food for Thought" is sure to make you laugh and squirm while your stomach growls.

For too long, short films have remained the forgotten art form; a consistently underrated medium that has never been given the exposure it demands. Even with the emerging popularity of independent films in the Philippines, short films are still seen as “front acts” for full-length features or “sidebars” at local film festivals. The Katorse Writers’ Group, a group of young writer-filmmakers who were part of Ricky Lee’s 14th Scriptwriting Workshop, addresses this problem by coming up with a full program of short films to be screened at Robinson’s Galleria Indie Sine. On June 11-17, KATORSE SHORTS will showcase 7 short films with themes ranging from the romantic to the absurd to the tragic - a program that is meant to bring to the consciousness of Filipino audiences the short film as a form that can hold its own. The Insane

The Insane is a short horror film directed by Mark Cripps & David J Ellison. Its 12 minutes long and was shot in the northwest of England for Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£1000. Synopsis: John Vincent is a tortured cop on a quest for vengeance. After finding his wife and unborn child brutally murdered in his own home, he decides to go outside the law and dispense his own brand of justice on the murderers who have destroyed his life. He believes a crazed cult of psychotics, running amok in the city are the ones who killed his family. Under the cover of darkness, armed with only a crowbar and his wits, John takes to the seedy city streets and one by one takes out the insane gang members. The hunters become the hunted and by the end you will wonder who is the more insane, John or the creatures that made him?
