I have never escaped from my responsibility." Hong Kong has eagerly awaited the return of Edison Chen ever since one of the largest Internet sex scandals rocked the region. Chen was seen on the Internet posing with starlets. He admitted that he owned the pictures. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) EDISON CHEN, SAYING "I admit that most of these photos being circulated on the Internet were taken by me. But these photos were very private and have not been shown to people and were never intended to be shown to anyone. These photos were stolen from me illegally and distributed without my consent. There is no doubt whoever obtained these photos had been uploading them on the Internet with malicious and deliberate intent. this matter has deteriorated to the extent that society as a whole has been affected by this, and in this regard I am deeply saddened. I would like now to apologise to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and all the problems that have arisen from this," Hong Kong's media is unlikely to let this story fade as the police are still investigating who who put the Internet pictures out to the public. Guitar legend Les Paul has died of complications from pneumonia, his family announced. He was 94. - He died Thursday at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, N.Y., with his family at his side. - Paul is considered the "father of the electric guitar" for his invention of the solid-body instrument. - Primarily a jazz-pop musician, Paul’s pioneering techniques influenced guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. - At age 93, he still played weekly at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City. - Paul built his own solid-body guitar with amplification in 1941, because he wanted audiences to hear him better. - He was trying to overcome problems with earlier electric guitars, which were hollow-body instruments that suffered from feedback and distortion. - Paul improved the solid-body guitar over the next 10 years, until, in 1952, Gibson Guitar Corp. introduced the Les Paul model. - Paul also developed recording techniques such as multi-tracking and echo delay, and he created an early-model synthesizer. - "He's become an idol and an icon to people in the rock world, as well as people in jazz and popular music," Terry Stewart, president of the Cleveland-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said in a tribute to Paul last year. - Paul was an innovator throughout his life in music. - Born June 9, 1915, in Waukesha, Wis., he first began playing harmonica at age eight. As a teen, he began performing semi-professionally as a country-music guitarist and dropped out of high school to join a country band. Les Paul Trio - In the 1930s, he started performing jazz on Chicago radio and in 1936 released a recording with blues artist Georgia White, as well as a second recording under the name Rhubarb Red. - In 1938, he moved to New York with the Les Paul Trio, which he formed with Jim Atkins and Ernie Newton. Later, he moved to Hollywood, where he played with greats such as Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby. - He was already experimenting with guitars, creating a guitar he called The Log in 1939 made of a piece of lumber with bridge, guitar neck, and pickup attached. - "What I wanted to do is not have two things vibrating. I wanted the string to vibrate and nothing else. I wanted the guitar to sustain longer than an acoustical box and have different sounds than an acoustical box," he said of this invention. - He continued to refine his guitars, and in 1951 Gibson built its first model based on his solid-body guitar. - Paul also saw the potential of tape recording, a new technology imported from Germany. - He experimented in his garage with multi-tracking, recording multiple tracks of his own playing and blending them together, the first known use of this technique. First 8-track tape recorder - With his wife, singer Mary Ford, Paul played and recorded on a series of top 40 hits during the 1940s, including How High the Moon, Bye Bye Blues, The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise and Vaya Con Dios. Paul managed the technology that featured Ford singing with herself. - He commissioned the first eight-track tape recorder and created techniques such as close miking — putting the mouth close to microphone to get a more intimate sound — and echo delay. - "Suddenly, it was recognized that power was a very important part of music," Paul said of the 1950s, when his inventions first were put to wide use. - "To have the dynamics, to have the way of expressing yourself beyond the normal limits of an unamplified instrument, was incredible. Today, a guy wouldn't think of singing a song on a stage without a microphone and a sound system." - An annual award in his name honours individuals who have advanced recording technology. - In 1950, he had a 15-minute radio program, The Les Paul Show, and he later was on TV with his wife in The Les Paul & Mary Ford Show. - Paul's reputation as a guitar innovator earned him a following among rock musicians such as Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and Eddie Van Halen, many of whom consulted with him on getting the sound they wanted from an electric guitar. - In 1978, Les Paul and Mary Ford were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Paul received a Grammy Trustees Award for his lifetime achievements in 1983. - Paul is survived by three sons, a daughter and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Actors Jackie Chan and Pu Cunxin and folksinger Peng Liyuan are preparing to tackle a taboo. Their new Public Service Announcements call for safe and protected sex using condoms. The Life is Too Good series of announcements are part of a drive to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Pu Cunxin wants to use his fame to spread the word. SOUNDBITE: Pu Cunxin, actor, participant in Public Service Announcements, saying (Mandarin): "China has a floating population of several hundred million, people separated for long periods of time from their partners. How do we teach them about protective sex, especially the young couples? I think that our announcements will make people think, more and more will get the message, if we work hard to broadcast it, they will benefit." In an effort to spread the message, the announcements, directed by Oscar winning director Ruby Yang, will go out on all forms of media. From websites to public transport to state television, the message will be everywhere. SOUNDBITE: Ruby Yang, Public Service Announcements director, saying (English): (WHAT'S PSA) "On CCTV they can talk about condoms and sexual transmission so its, I would say, a mini breakthrough to show this series of PSA on CCTV." Talk about going to the archives. Jimi Hendrix is the supposed star of the latest celebrity sex tape. Adult film company Vivid Entertainment is releasing a video allegedly starring the rock guitarist engaged in various sexual acts with two women. The rock guitar virtuoso died of a drug overdose in 1970. John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for his "Give Peace a Chance" are going up for auction. Christie's said the document could fetch as much as $600,000 dollars. The lyrics are being sold by comedy writer and presenter Gail Renard, who was 16 when she befriended Lennon and Yoko Ono. According to Christie's, Lennon gave Renard the lyrics, telling her: "One day they will be worth something." The lyrics go under the gavel on July 10. Pop singer Britney Spears will soon return to prime-time television. Weeks after glowing reviews as a guest star on the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," Spears will return to the show on May 12 to reprise her role as a sassy office assistant named Abby. Spears' first appearance on the show last month drew 10.6 million viewers, up sharply from the show's season-to-date average audience of 8.1 million. Paris Hilton continues to draw a crowd. The party-girl socialite stopped traffic in West Hollywood where she made a visit to the ever trendy Kitson, where she launched a new clothing line. Mel Gibson is back in front of the camera for the first time since 2002. He is set to headline the thriller film, "Edge of Darkness." The 52-year-old actor has kept a low profile since his drunken anti-Semitic outburst in July 2006. In "Edge of Darkness" Gibson will playing a straitlaced cop who uncovers corruption while investigating a murder. Grand Theft Auto 4 went on sale Tuesday, with fans lining up at midnight to grab the first copies of the criminal action game. The launch is expected to be the biggest entertainment event of the year, with first-week sales forecast to be near $400 million, beating those of last year's "Halo 3." Based on early reviews, "Grand Theft Auto 4" appears on track to be the best-rated video game ever and one that could cement video games as a serious art form. Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am says the band will play in China, despite calls for artists to boycott the country over its human rights record. The star called the recent crackdown in Tibet "messed up", but questioned whether it was right to "punish a whole country". Pop star Michael Jackson’s memorial ended Tuesday with his 11-year-old daughter Paris taking the stage of the Staples Center in Los Angeles, following a star-studded tribute that included performances by Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson and Lionel Richie. - "Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine," Paris said, sobbing as she was surrounded by family. - "And I just want to say I love him so much," she managed to say before being hugged by aunt Janet Jackson. - The family then left the stage and Jackson brothers carried the casket away as a photo montage lit up the stage and audience members filed away after the 2½-hour ceremony. - The only other family member to speak was brother Marlon, wearing a glittering glove on his left hand. - "Michael, I will treasure the good times, the fun we had, singing, dancing laughing.... we would try to watch the Stooges before Mom said it was time to go to the record studio." - He referred to Michael's pain in being judged and ridiculed because of his status: "Maybe now Michael, they will leave you alone." He finished by asking Michael to give Marlon's dead twin a hug for him in heaven. - Jermaine Jackson took the stage at one point to croon the heartbreaking Smile, composed by Charlie Chaplin and said to be Michael's favourite song. - Singer Smokey Robinson got the tribute rolling by reading letters from two of the pop superstar's closest friends, Diana Ross and Nelson Mandela. - After a 20-minute period of silence, the audience was greeted with a choir singing the hymn Soon and Very Soon: "We are going to see the King, Hallelujah, Hallelujah" they sang as Jackson's casket, adorned with bright red flowers, was brought to the foot of the stage. - Some 11,000 people were packed the Staples Center, with an additional 6,500 in the Nokia Theater overflow section. They all got a 15-page program detailing the event with a statement signed by Janet Jackson on the back of the booklet. 'This is the moment I never wished was coming' - The memorial blended speeches and music from Jackson's closest friends. - Among the performers who sang their tributes was Mariah Carey, resplendent in a glittering black gown, with a gentle version of I'll Be There. She was joined by singer Trey Lorenz as members of Jackson's family sang along in the front row. - Stevie Wonder came on half way through the ceremony and sat at the piano, saying: "This is a moment I wished was never coming ... Michael I love you and I've told you many times. I'm at peace with that." - He then launched into an impassioned version of I Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer and They Won't Go When I Go. - Jennifer Hudson, backed by a chorus, sang a rousing rendition of Will You Be There and was soon followed by an energetic Rev. Al Sharpton who talked about Jackson's ability to unite people from all backgrounds, races and nationalities. - John Mayer appeared onstage doing an understated electric guitar version of Human Nature, with a few strains from backup singers. 'Biggest star on earth' - Queen Latifah stepped up to the podium, calling Jackson "the biggest star on Earth." - "Somehow Michael sang when he danced ... he made you believe in yourself." - Queen Latifah also shared a few words from poet Maya Angelou that included the line: "Now we know a bright and shining star can slip from our fingertips like a puff in the wind." - Motown founder Berry Gordy said as a child, Jackson could sing the blues with the passion of a man who had been hurt his whole life. Gordy went through Jackson's history from his time with the Jackson 5 to his iconic moonwalk dance. - "When Michael performed a song, you could feel the happiness in his soul." - Gordy recalled the singer as "child-like" offstage but a "master" when he performed onstage. The crowd roared to life when he called Jackson "the greatest entertainer that ever lived." Biggest pop star donor - Basketball stars Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson spoke about the singer's charitable efforts. They reminded fans Jackson made the Guinness World Records book for the most donations made by a pop star. - The two honoured the 50-year-old singer for "opening the doors for all the African-Americans." - Actress Brooke Shields met Jackson when she was 13. She reminisced that it was "the most natural friendship" of all, saying that they both had experienced being in the spotlight from a very young age. - "Both of us needed to be adults very early," said Shields, whose voice shook. "When we were together, we were two little kids having fun ... MJ's laugh was the sweetest and purest I have ever known." She also read an excerpt from the book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. - "Michael saw everything with his heart," Shields said. We are the World - "Michael never stopped giving because he reconstructed the lives of those who were destroyed because the King said: 'I care about you,' " declared Congresswoman Sheila Jackson of Texas. - Jackson said she was introducing a special tribute into the House of Representatives that would honour Jackson with the designation of World Humanitarian. - Robinson returned to the stage and called Jackson "my little brother." He spoke about the first time he heard a 10-year-old Michael sing Robinson's own song, Who's Loving You. - "I could not believe someone that young could sing like that. I thought the Jacksons had pulled a fast one on me ... I wanted to check his birth certificate," said Robinson, sparking laughter from the audience. - Kenny Ortega, who was choreographing Jackson's comeback at London's O2 arena, talked about the superstar's preparations for the concert series called This is It, rehearsing at the same arena where the memorial took place. - Members of the This Is It band and backup singers were joined by Robinson and the Jacksons, who mounted the stage for We are the World. - Audience members filed out quietly at the end of the ceremony. International supermodel Naomi Campbell took part in a charity fashion show in Moscow on Monday (March 9). Campbell led models on a catwalk in a concert hall in the Barvikha Luxury Village in the outskirts of Moscow, the elite shopping mall which caters to Moscow’s millionnaires and billionnaires. Campbell's boyfriend, Russian businessman Vladislav Doronin, sat in the front row with Russian fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin. After the show Voronin escorted Campbell's mother, Valerie, followed by a crowd of local celebrities. The charity show was organised by Moscow's TsUM superstore to unveil their spring-summer 2009 collection to an audience who bought their tickets to collect money for children suffering from leukaemia in Russia. Campbell has been a frequent visitor to the Russian capital since romance blossomed between the model and her Russian millionnaire Doronin. Russian gossip columns have been full of unconfirmed rumours that the pair will marry, that they have bought a luxury residence in Moscow's exclusive Rublovka together and even that Campbell would convert to the Russian orthodox faith at Doronin's request.
