November 6th, 2009Neshaminy - 20Pennsbury - 27 Overtime sees `Skins edged by Falcons It’s been eighty seasons since the ‘Skins and Falcons first lined up in 1930. And reviewing the series revealed that before kickoff, seventy-seven games were in the books with the overall record all knotted up at 35-35-7! Wow - does this ever get old? Nah, it sure doesn’t, not at all. Plus this evening’s tangle at Falcon Field was anticipated to be another terrific match-up between the two Lower Bucks County next door neighbors. With both squads at 8-1, and the SOL-National Conference title on the line along with all-important District One playoff “seeding”, is there anything else that needs be said? Well, there might be one more “thing” – bragging rights for another year were also up for grabs. So as it’s not necessary to write another word - except that the SRO crowd in Fairless Hills couldn’t have had a more cooperative Mother Nature as she provided crisp air, no rain at all and just a bit of a breeze making for perfect football weather - let’s get right to it.With the Falcons winning the toss and electing to receive, they opened up that first series on their own 35. And although starting it off with a very nice clock eating drive, that effort eventually stalled and Pennsbury was forced to punt. Then on one that might have been better let go, Bryan Dean stepped up to make the return at the ten. With a Falcon right in on him, the ball came loose on the hit with Pennsbury recovering. Shortly thereafter it was the home team then up, 7-0. But looking to make up for it in a hurry, it was Dean who returned the following kickoff to the Orange and Black 34 where the Neshaminy offense took over. November 13th, 2009Neshaminy - 24Abington - 17Rematch goes to `Skins in playoff openerOn a blustery, damp and rainy Friday the 13th night, the 7-2 Ghosts of Abington made their way to Langhorne for the Preliminary Round of the District One Championship Series. And as the 8-2 Tribe was seeded at the number eight slot in the 16 team arrangement, with fellow SOL-National Conference member Abington at number nine, it couldn’t have been called as much closer going in to kickoff. Well, that is unless we look back just a month or so ago to that 28-24 thriller that went to the visitors at their home field (which surely added an extra element to what was being billed as the “Game of The Week” around the district). So with the table set for a humdinger, let’s dig right in on this one as scholastic grid fans in Lower Bucks surely couldn’t have been more ready for the feast these two clubs promised to deliver!With the visitors winning the toss they elected to receive the ball. And after a bobbled catch, a Ghost was forced to fall on it on the 22 where they set up shop. Moving it out well, Abington took it to mid-field before running out of gas. Following the punt, Neshaminy then took over at its 26 before going back to the 21 on an offsides call. But failing to convert, Neshaminy went into its own punt formation only to see the kick blocked with the ball then returned into the end zone by a Ghost defenseman. With the PAT good, the visitors were suddenly up 7-0. Kicking off after that, the Blue and Red set up on their own 35 after the return. Stitching together an almost eight-minute drive in the drizzling and misty environment, the Redskins moved it down to the enemy ten before stalling out. THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon, everybody, and welcome to the White House. And welcome to a moment nearly 40 years in the making. Last month, I was privileged to present the parents of an American soldier, Sergeant First Class Jared Monti, with our nation’s highest decoration for valor — the Medal of Honor. Today, we celebrate the awarding of our nation's highest honor for a military unit -- the Presidential Unit Citation. The Presidential Unit Citation is awarded for "gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions." Since its creation during the Second World War, it has only been bestowed about 100 times. Today, another unit assumes its rightful place in these ranks -- Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry, the legendary Blackhorse Regiment. To mark this occasion we're joined by Congressman -- and Vietnam veteran -- Leonard Boswell; Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Jim "Hoss" Cartwright; John McHugh, our Army Secretary; and Vice Chief of Staff Peter Chiarelli; from Fort Irwin, California, leaders of today's 11th Armored Cavalry -- Colonel Paul Laughlin and Command Sergeant Major Martin Wilcox; and most of all, the men of Alpha Troop -- those behind me and some 100 here today. Now, these men might be a little bit older, a little bit grayer. But make no mistake -- these soldiers define the meaning of bravery and heroism. It was March 1970, deep in the jungles of Vietnam. And through the static and crackle of their radios Alpha Troop heard that another unit was in trouble. Charlie Company, from the 1st Calvary Division, had stumbled upon a massive underground bunker of North Vietnamese troops. A hundred Americans were facing some 400 enemy fighters. Johnson assess Bolt’s capabilities

American track & field legend, Michael Johnson, believes Usain Bolt is capable of adding the 400-metre world record to his glowing list of accomplishments. Johnson, who is in the island for a BBC documentary with Bolt, believes the world record holder for the 100 and 200 metres "is good enough to run 42 seconds but ... he will have to develop his strength-and-speed endurance." The man who dominated the track and set world records in the 200 and 400 metres in the 90s and early 2000s, said Bolt, who ran 9.58 and 19.19 seconds for the 100 and 200 metres world records, has the potential to add the 400m to his name. And if he does, Johnson, who holds the mark at 43.18 seconds, said: "Nobody is ever going to hold the world record at 100, 200 and 400 metres again if he (Bolt) does it."
