Aaron Cunningham at-bat during a summer 2007 California League meeting between the Visalia Oaks and the Lake Elsinore Storm. At the time, Cunningham was playing for the Oaks, an Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate. In late December of 2007, he was dealt to the Oakland Athletics along with Carlos Gonzalez, Chris Carter, Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith in exchange for All-Star hurler Danny Haren and Connor Robertson. Cunningham began the 2007 season as a member of the Chicago White Sox and he earned Carolina League All-Star honors after batting .294/.376/.476 with eight home runs, 37 RBIs and 22 stolen bases in 252 at-bats with the Winston-Salem Warthogs. He was traded to the Diamondbacks at midseason for infielder Danny Richar. The 5-foot-11, 195 pound outfielder hit .358/.386/.553 with three dingers, 20 RBIs and five stolen bases for the Single-A Visalia Oaks of the California League. He ended the season at Double-A Mobile where he batted .288/.364/.534 with five round-trippers, 20 RBI and one steal in 118 at-bats with the Bay Bears. Cunningham was selected by the White Sox in the sixth round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Everett Community College in the state of Washington.
