A Florida man shot himself in the chest when he couldn't outrun police during a high-speed chase. Hollywood police surrounded Puteen Chandler's car Wednesday after they received a 9-1-1 call. Chandler refused to talk to the police and sped away. He then zigzagged through Broward County, hitting several cars and running red lights. Chandler told a fellow worker in the car that he had just gotten out of prison and did not want to go back. "He puts the gun to my ribs and tells me to throw this bag out the window because it had a whole bunch of drugs in it and a couple of stolen guns in it supposedly," said co-worker Troy Ellis. "He put the gun to his chest and fired a few shots." Chandler survived the gunshot wounds and was recovering in the hospital Thursday. (08/24/06)
