U-P-S WORKERS IN ALBUQUERQUE ACCUSED OF STEALING FROM CUSTOMERS. POLICE SAY WORKERS WERE MAKING EXPENSIVE ELECTRONICS DISAPPEAR AT THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER ....AND THEN SELLING THEM. JEFF MAHER CONFRONTED ONE OF THOSE WORKERS TODAY -- HE'S LIVE AT THE U-P-S WAREHOUSE NEAR I- 25 AND COMANCHE -- JEFF. FOR CLOSE TO A YEAR - U-P-S SECURITY WORKERS WERE HAVING SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THINGS BEING STOLEN FROM PEOPLE'S PACKAGES BEING BROUGHT TO THIS DISTRIBUTION CENTER. NOW, A U-P-S WORKER HAS BEEN CHARGED. I CAUGHT UP WITH HIM OUTSIDE METRO COURT TODAY -- HE SAYS THEY'VE GOT IT ALL WRONG. 'jorge, can we talk to you real quick? no, I'm cool man - just about what happened? no I'm cool man were you stealing stuff from people's packages while you were at UPS? No sir. so, you're not guilty of those crimes? I'm not guilty man what happened? I'm not going to say anything, but I didn't do anything wrong'26-YEAR-OLD JORGE NAVA, A FORMER VEHICLE LOADER AT THIS U- P-S DISTRIBUTION HUB SAYS HE'S INNOCENT. POLICE SAY HE WAS WORKING WITH TWO CO-WORKERS TO SNEAK PACKAGES OUT OF THE PLACE TO STEAL ELECTRONICS INSIDE - THEN TURN AROUND AND SELL THEM CHEAP. 'you're wrongly accused of it? yes sir. so you're going to plead not guilty? yes sir, I will go to court and I will show everybody that they have nothing on me. so, those co-defendants - the other employees - they're the ones who made the mistake, I didn't do anything wrong, they're trying to put the prank on me - that's it so you weren't putting packages inside trucks and retrieving them at other locations? no. Nothing at all' SINCE MARCH OF LAST YEAR - IPOD'S, GAMING SYSTEMS, AND A BLACKBERRY CELL PHONE ALL WENT MISSING - TOTALING MORE THAN 13-THOUSAND DOLLARS. POLICE SAY ONE CO-WORKER ADMITTED TO BUYING THE BLACKBERRY FROM NAVA FOR A HUNDRED AND FIFTY BUCKS. 'in our case here we were lucky and had some confidential informants that were able to direct our investigation and effectively make an arrest out of this' U-P-S DIDN'T WANT TO TALK -- BUT THE COMPANY DID GIVE US THIS STATEMENT - 'UPS does not tolerate dishonesty and acts immediately in the rare instance we encounter it. We spend a great deal of time and effort to hire people who fit the UPS mold: hard working and honest... Any customer who had goods involved in this theft has been or will be made whole shortly.'ALL THREE U-P-S EMPLOYEES ACCUSED OF THE THEFTS HAVE BEEN FIRED.
