We are thinking this is a very intelligent bird. We had the leftover baby bird food formula out on the counter while we were putting a baby bird back onto the playgym. We turned around and could hardly believe our eyes...our little food thief was not only good at nicking some food, but was so clever by using a scoop to get at it!! We were lucky that she kept going long enough for us to capture it on video. This is a Nanday Conure. She is about 11 months old. We never trained her with a scoop, spoon, or any other 'tool'. We know that larger parrots often can be trained to eat with utensils, but we are not aware of other Conures who were taught to use one -- let alone figure out how to use a utensil or tool on their own. If you have a Conure or any smaller parrot who can, please reply with video if you are able. Thanks! Now that we made a big deal about it, our Nanday has since flown over to us while we were making up formula and snatched the scoop out of the container mix -- attempting to eat the dry formula -- the little sneak! Our Nanday is named 'Zorro'. If you liked this one (even if you didn't), please view our video about little Chomper, the Jenday Conure from Chicago.
