Peter Lorre - Galatea (Mad Love - 1935)

Dr. Gogol's last, sad moments of madness. Dr. Gogol (Lorre) has purchased the wax sculpture of the actress with whom he is obsessed. He calls the sculpture "Galatea", after the Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. According to myth, Pygmalion carves a woman out of ivory and falls in love with the statue. He prays to Aphrodite, who feels pity for Pygmalion and brings the statue to life. In this scene, Dr. Gogol has fallen into madness after the rejection of the actress. Here, the real actress hides in Dr. Gogol's room after finding herself trapped. Imagine Dr. Gogol's surprise when his beloved Galatea comes to life! "There is blood on your cheek, Galatea.
