Somalia women suffer in silence

November 25 is the International Day for the Prevention of Violence against Women. In Somalia, 99% of women undergo the most extreme form of female circumcision, called pharaonic infibulation. This leads to many medical complications, especially during childbirth. The most shameful and debilitating of these is obstetric fistula. Although fistula is preventable and treatable, it’s still a taboo in Somalia like in most parts of the world. An AFPTV report.
