Kelly Chokes on Property Tax Question, Acropolis Follows with Clear and Viable Plan At the recent Brick Mayoral Debate, hosted by Brick Township High School, Democrat mayoral candidate Dan Kelly choked when asked how he would reduce the property tax burden that is on the verge of forcing middle-class families out of Brick (see post above). Providing a real contrast between the candidates, Republican mayoral candidate Steve Acropolis responded to the same property tax question that had so thoroughly stumped Kelly with a thoughtful and intelligent response. Acropolis described his accomplishments as President of the township council, including successful efforts to explore consolidated and shared services as a way to lower the township's expenses and ultimately property taxes. He explained, for example, how the council moved to consolidate the township's welfare department with similar efforts run at the county level, saving Brick taxpayers $100,000 to $200,000. Acropolis cited successful efforts by the council to have Brick Towship share certain professional services with Brick Schools, resulting in lowered costs for both entities, and described future plans that are being considered to further expand this cost-cutting relationship. As the video below clearly shows, Steve Acropolis has a viable plan to lower property taxes in Brick. Compare this video to that of Democrat Dan Kelly above, and it should be clear that the Republican plan to lower property taxes is right for Brick Township.
