I brought a bucket of water inside that I had prepared earlier, got sheets and towels, wet them all, put them over our heads and over our arms and everything, and escaped from the house to the street." Barry Tully, resident of Strathewen, “We designed and built the house, so as to withstand a small fire, but this was the granddaddy of the whole lot." With dozens of fires still burning, the total losses have not yet been tallied. Human lives- as well as those of thousands of animals, too. The prime minister has called the arson-set fires an act of "mass murder". It’s a crime that is still being committed, as shifting winds threaten to spread the blaze.
