The Alfred Hitchcock Hour-Fatal Figures

John McGiver plays Harold Goames, the bookkeeper, a man obsessed with his own unimportance. Vivian Nathan plays Margaret, his sister, who is content with the routine life they share. Goames, who has been preoccupied with figures all his working life, accidentally runs across a book of crime statistics. According to figures, the most select group of criminals is that listed under "Murder and Manslaughter," 7,124 to be exact. The disturbed Goames feels it would be better to be "one of the 7,124 Americans than one of 172,000,000 Americans." His frustration becomes complete when police list his sister’s death as "due to natural causes."
