Du Jiazhen is an eye doctor. Deeply in love with a married man but unable to r...emove herself from the abyss, she is tormented. One day, the man disappears. She searches high and low for him and soon finds herself in a state of crisis. Her heavy workload can no longer numb her feelings and the temporary pleasures of the past are no longer there to provide illusions of happiness. Desperate, she puts a marriage ad in the personals. The response is overwhelming but prospects are not promising. Those who answer her ad run the gamut of the peculiar: men looking for one-night stands, women posing as men, grandfathers long widowed, lonely hearts wanting nothing more than a chat... While humoring the men, Du never gives up on her former love, calling up his home and leaving messages on his answering service. Until one day, when she decides to give up on the personals, her lover's wife picks up the phone, telling her to stop searching, for her husband had passed away and will no longer be able to return her calls...
