In response to the "correction" of my usage of the term "Red Room":The Red Room *is* the Black Lodge. It is also the *White* Lodge. These are not geographically separated places. I think many people misunderstood this because Windham was trying to enter the Black Lodge and Cooper pursued him. But the two Lodges are not like "heaven" and "hell", but, rather, they are different perspectives of the same place. One is entered through the key of fear (Annie fearing for her life opened the Lodge door for Windham); the other Lodge opens through the key of love (Cooper's love for Annie gains him passage). That was revealed at the end of the series when it "suddenly came" to Cooper. The Red Room is merely a physical manifestation of the two Lodges.Unfortunately, entering the Lodge with the key of love only gets you in the door. Cooper must face his challenge with "perfect courage" (as Hawk called it). The black and white floor, the strobe light, and the lighting on Cooper's face (which alternates from light to shadow on each side of his face) represents the pull of each Lodge on Cooper's soul. Only with perfect courage can he resist succumbing to the Black Lodge. "I was leaning against a car - the front of me was leaning against this very warm car. My hands were on the roof and the metal was very hot. The Red Room scene leapt into my mind. Little Mike was there and he was speaking backwards... For the rest of the night I thought only about The Red Room."--David LynchSee you in the trees...
